The Coquihala is pretty much the hardest thing you can ask a vehicle to tackle in BC, loonng hills with most people doing 120km/h+. So while we were going 90-100km/h, sometimes 80 up the really long hills, the little truck did it all without getting hot. It did take like 7 or 8 hours to go 450km, what with all the slowness and stopping to check on the coolant and oil, but still, it did it.

I’m pretty proud of it, considering it’d been sitting for 4 years prior to this. I even passed a couple people! One of them was even uphill! Today I’ll likely do a compression test, and a lot of cleaning and vacuuming to get the interior in acceptable shape.

Awesome, the coq is a big test, I’ve done the connector with new used cars and it’s always nerve wracking.. good thing is if it did that it can handle daily duty!

The Subaru will likely keep doing daily duty, but if the compression test looks good, I may alternate using them since this thing is so fun to drive

Alignment, compression test, tune up, rust prevention probably, and maybe a weber swap

This is a well timed post, there are suddenly two Raiders on my local CL and I was half-heartedly thinking about maybe, possibly snagging one. How do you like it? I used to drive a stripped-down Sidekick made out of two scrap Sidekicks, so forgoing creature comforts isn’t foreign to me.

I like it on lower speed highways, not so much freeways where everyone is going 40-50km/h faster than me. It’s also a ton of fun off road, it’ll crawl over lots in 4Lo. The thing to keep in mind with these is parts availability, there are so few of them that parts support is nothing like an old Jeep or Toyota. Value is excellent though, an equivalent FJ70 would be a lot more than the $1200 I paid for this. Oh and watch for rust, mine is gonna need a front fender at least
