Was just reading the post by Dogisbadob on the Corvette C5/6 amber tail lights.

So, as you do (when your bored) I went to some car sites to see how much Corvettes were going for in the U.K.

Then I saw it, I stumbled upon a U.K. American car dealer who seems to import anything American from:-

1987 Chrysler New Yorker.

to

2017 Ford Explorer.

Including, wait for it...............

So not only has someone in an RHD market bought a LHD car, they’ve bought a U.S. spec one with those awful amber inserts in the headlights and had to add the rear foglight onto the rear bumper to make it legal in the U.K. and E.U.. If you want an LHD for some reason, just buy an E.U. LHD car.

The four door is even worse (more worse) because we get the three door and the five door and that person bought a four door.

Some people say Brits are a little different and some are way more than different.

And why are both car wearing U.S. licence plate holders with U.K. square licence plates that don’t fit properly? Swap the licence plate holders for U.K. ones and it won’t look so mismatched.

Mind you, the dealer has had some nice motors in.

I wonder if the American Fiestas work out significantly cheaper than a UK or Euro one? That’s the only possible explanation I can think of.

Weird. Are American servicemen station in the UK? That would be my explanation because many weird US market cars end up that way in Germany.

The blue one sold for £7,750 on a 15 plate with 1,900 miles on the clock.

A comparable one on Autotrader right now

Kinja'd!!!

So over £1,000 difference.

There are cheaper ones and more expensive ones for the age (higher mileage though in all cases).

I suppose if you really want an automatic fiesta and dont care about lhd it works... But if you ever plan on selling it you’ll lose so much in the resale price it probably doesn’t work out any better. Takes a specific kind of person to buy such a thing.

That difference in value is way too small. A lhd US spec car? Who in the world would buy it from you? Don’t know about the UK but you couldn’t give away a lhd car here.

cool cars you posted!

And yeah, I wish we’d allow the harmonized UNECE standards over here. Not only would it be cheaper for car companies (they won;’t have to build as many different variants anymore), but the stupid 25-year shit would also become moot.

Those old two-tone interiors are cool

Judging by the three Fiestas it’s sold on site they’ve all had similar licence plates so likely bought in a batch with other cars from the U.S.

The dealership is in Stoke-on-Trent which is a good distance from any U.S. bases.

R.A.F. Menwith Hill and R.A.F. Fylingdales are 50 miles to the north (they are also listening stations with interceptor capabilities so I’d imagine most would want to keep a low profile).

R.A.F. Lakenheath and Mildenhall are quite a distance to the south, they tend to bring their own vehicles over.

Ye’, especially when you can buy an LHD cheap enough in the E.U. or order one new from the factory.

I’ve heard of some Skoda owners buy their cars LHD as they do a lot of work in Holland or Belgium and they can cope better with LHD in the U.K. than RHD in Europe. One guy resorted to buying LHD after using a trash picking stick for ages to get tickets at parking garages.

Another guy spends a lot of time in eastern Europe.

Some nice motors. Very low mileage.

I’d assume in the U.S. those same cars would have an extra ‘0' on the end of the mileage.

Essex sorts of makes sense.

It’s more the U.S. spec Fiestas that’s odd.

I’m sorry, but anytime I see. ‘scat pack’, on a car. I’ve just got to say, ‘NOPE’.

That E class one is pretty badly placed. Maybe it’s what I’m used to but I like that the US (idk about Canada) requires front and rear side markers. I know I’m in the minority.

05/21/2017 at 15:25, STARS: 0

I’m not sure about Canada either, I know they share quite a few of the same vehicle requirements (helps to when building cars for the U.S. and importing them from the U.S.).

In the U.K. and E.U. we require a rear foglight at least and rear reflectors.

I like rear fog lights. Some German cars have them here, but half the time they are misused or owners don’t even know they are on.

Kinja'd!!! "Svend" (svend)

In the U.K. It’s illegal to use foglights when it’s not foggy and the police are quick to pick up on it.

Irrelevant question: What kinda air fresheners do you use in your car?

Kinja'd!!! "Svend" (svend)
05/24/2017 at 20:51, STARS: 0

I use Yankee Candle air vent sticks.

California Scents tubs or hanging trees, etc... if they tip over or fall can do serious damage to the cars interior plastic surfaces.

Are the vanilla ones any good? I remember you saying you had some in your Skoda.

My car currently smells like death. My friend left a horrible diet grape soda or in there on a hot day and it combined with the other horrible stench left my spilling dead crabs everywhere a year ago.

Ye’, I’ve Vanilla ones in the Skoda and my neighbours? 1 has Midnight Mystery or similar, I can’t remember the exact name.

Have you tried using an odour eliminator cleaner on the car? I can’t express just how good Valet Pro, Enzyme Odour Eater is for cleaning interior fabric and carpets and destroying odours. It’s been my goto for years now. It’s never let me down.

Yup, I’ve looked into those. Ozium is one of the big ones here.

I really like the smell of vanilla, so I might as well.

Kinja'd!!! "Svend" (svend)

I like the Vanilla because it’s not too obnoxious and in your face.

Another odour destroyer I use is CarPro So2Pure.

It’s a photo catalyst air purifier.

Kinja'd!!!

Clean area, let dry then spray So2Pure on the fabric and forget really (on plastic surfaces, spray on and wipe).

I’m with you on this one, I live in a place where we get both International and US spec cars and the latter ones always look cooler at night and I guess there is an added benefit of safety too.
