Kinja'd!!!

Finally all customs work was finished so I could pick up the little Pao this week. The Japanese really ship ‘m without any fuel whatsoever so I had to winch it up on the truck.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Kinja'd!!!

And with only 750kgs it wasn’t hard to push it near the truck anyway of course. Next time (there’s a Be-1 coming as well, more on that later) I’ll bring a jerrycan with fuel though.

Kinja'd!!!

Now let’s just see what’s all needed to have it registered. I’ll keep you all posted. One thing I’m lucky about is the fact that it’s an ‘89 as in ‘90 rear seat belts became mandatory over here. And yes: I don’t think I ever had a car drawing more attraction on the highway (even on a towtruck!) before!

Awesome to see it arrived at destination man! Let us know how road trips in it go :)

And yeah, sometimes they get fully drained before boarding... Sometimes not. It still had a little bit of fuel when it left (it drove onto the truck here on its own), so I guess they drained it before boarding...

Like I said before, awesome! Too bad I couldn’t join you.

I think it might only need a re-aim of the headlights and the addition of a rear fog light. From what I know the rest of Japanese standards seem quite close to our European ones.

Do you already know what kind of licence plates you are going to put onto it? I think small oldtimer plates might suit it quite well (apparently it’s illegal-ish, but lots of Figaros have them too).

No worries, I drove it of the truck myself ;-)

The headlights are de-mounted already, taking them to a guy fixing the Left drivingness of ‘m next week. Shocks might be an issue for the roadtest prior to registering it. And I’m gonna replace some hosing under the hood but those will be no problem for registering. It’s awesome man!

Awesome man! Post everything you’ll do on it here!

You could probably do a manual conversion with Micra parts some day too... Just saying ;)

Yeah, too bad! The rear fog light is from ‘97, so no need for that.

Those are illegal but then again: the cops will not even doubt this one to be older than ‘89 so I’d fool ‘m easily. They do fit best, no doubt. I’ll have to get the yellow import plates anyway.

Talking about roadtrips involving (among others) Joep: are you still contemplating the late June (23-25) Alps trip?

No worries, I will. First I’ll make a list of parts I might want to get from you, if possible. The manuèl swap, if any, will be for the Be-1!

Sadly, no plans on going back home around this time for now... I’m setting up a company here that will involve stuff I’ll talk about here, so it does take quite a bit of time. Whenever I’ll go back to France, I’ll drive to the Nürburgring to spend a couple days there with the Mini. Be certain I’ll let you know when I go :)

Sure, just let me know and I’ll get them. Don’t forget that getting parts from a Micra in the UK might be cheaper though...

No worries on the mechanicals: I can get those from the local dealer. I saw one side blinker having a bit of moist in it, body-stuff like that.

Can confirm, although delivery is probably an issue. My friend purchased a complete Micra with a good gearbox and all the other stuff needed for the swap for £80.

Ah that saves the hassle of having to put extra wires in, nice!

Yeah, it looks old enough to get away with them, which is exactly the trick the Daytona uses, it used to have full sized yellow ones, but that just doesn’t look right on an older design. I’m thinking a ‘square’ one might look good on the rear of the Pao, not sure how the Dutch ‘square’ matches the Japanese plate recess though.

I’ll need some wiring anyway, got me some yellow fogs for on the front bumper!

Ah, the square plate, didn’t think about those! How does the current “pattern” on those go?

0 - XX

X - 00

?

Kinja'd!!! "Flavien Vidal" (flyingfrenchy)
05/21/2017 at 10:22, STARS: 0

That’s cheap indeed...

Kinja'd!!! "BvdV - The Dutch Engineer" (dutchengineer)
05/21/2017 at 10:39, STARS: 1

But those wires are needed for the right reason! Awesome!

I know the past series was

0-X

XX-00

But seeing the one before that was

00

XXX-0

I’m guessing it is going to be (haven’t seen one of those yet)

XX

000-X

as I don’t think they want to do more than 2 letters/numbers on the top row to keep space for the NL box.

They rust so badly that mechanically sound but rotten ones go for scrap value. So gearboxes and engines are dirt cheap.

YEAH!!! So exciting. It’s funny how small it looks. I guess it is small, though. My cars came with gas in them. I guess it depends on the boat. Did you get to take it for a drive, yet? It’s going to be the most distinguishable car in Breda. Everyone will always know where you are. That’s what I get with the Le Car. “Oh, I saw you were over at So-and-So’s.” You’re never incognito.

Just a small drive from the truck (we filled her up while she was on the bed) to Gerard’s garage. It’s a total neck-turner. In my case it probably will be “Oh, I saw Krista was over at Wout’s.” She’ll never be incognito.

I can’t wait until you have the Be-1 and you guys go out together each in your own little Nissan. That’s going to be adorable. You’ll be your own little parade spreading happiness and joy throughout the Netherlands like magic car pixies.

Who is this Wout character? Do I need to rough him up for you?

Kinja'd!!! "Jobjoris" (Jobjoris)
05/24/2017 at 03:05, STARS: 1

Yeah, maybe I’ll just dump both of the Volvos for ‘m!

Wout is over 70, no competition from him in that field... He’s Josje’s 3rd grandpa, the greengrocer I used to live above. I’m sure I shared that before.

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
05/25/2017 at 00:57, STARS: 1

Totally, you don’t need those Swedish boats any more. And then when Josje is old enough to drive, you can get her a Figaro.

I don’t think you ever mentioned living above a greengrocer. That must have been convenient. When was that? Still, never trust a greengrocer with your wife, I always say. First they’re slipping you free fruit and then who knows what happens.

There’s a fourth option, depends on what she’ll grow up to be. If she’s selling her own pies and cakes I’d better get her an S-Cargo!

Yeah, that was only a year or so when I lived in the city center of Breda. Unhealthy period next to all those bars. Wout’s wife was still living back then, she was a friend of Corry Konings, that’s why I thought I’ve shared it before.

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)

Better get Flavian on the horn again. By the time she’s old enough, those S-Cargos are going to be expensive. Does she like making cakes and pies?

Oh, maybe you did mention her being Corry’s friend. I do remember that now. How did they become friends?

Yep. Pretty active in the kitchen already. She doesn’t want to help me making a Croque Monsieur anymore though. “Saai!” (Boring)

They grew up in the same neighborhood IIRC. They were about the same age. When Wout’s wife was alive that is.

Haha. That’s cool. Maybe she’ll be a master chef some day. What kind of stuff does she like to make now? Tell her it takes a really great cook to make something simple like a Croque special. I love a good Croque Monsieur, but my speciality is tuna salad. Michelin would give me a star if I could get them to taste my tuna sandwiches. Is Krista a good cook?
