I think they were more popular in the late ‘70s, and by the time the last few trickled off of the assembly line in the mid ‘80s the design was on life support.

These cars are just so oddly proprtioned. It’s almost like the chassis was never meant to be a sporty liftback.

Well, Horizons and Reliants were cheap, whereas this was a more expensive, sportier, more premium product (yes, I had to stifle the laughter when I wrote that...) See Rabbit vs Scirocco.
