Normally, being in a foreign country, I’d be posting all the different cool non-US market cars. But this is Israel, and every car is very boring (silver, black, or white) and usually not a lot fancier than a Toyota Camry/Auris. I saw one Range Rover, one A7, and one S-Class today. This are obscenely fancy cars by Israeli standards. I believe it’s something to do with a very high import tax on cars.

overtaking at the end was legal wasn’t it? or were you speeding a bit too much?

In many places it’s illegal to pass multiple cars at once on the opposite side. Not sure about where I was though.

Other than mounting the kerb to get out from behind that Toyota with the elderly passenger (personally I’d of reversed back and used the other exit), it all seems good.

Also the guitar. I dread going to someones house and there is a guitar out, especially when I know the owners of the house don’t play the guitar. You know a visitor has brought it, and why would they bring it if they aren’t going to play it. Yes, that’s right, the player who can’t sing (and starts off by apologising that they don’t play the guitar perfectly) is at some point going to start playing, ‘folk songs’.

one of the upsides to having no social life is I rarely have to encounter these people.

matter of fact, I think the last time was several years ago, a few of us from work went to Potbelly for lunch, and some high-school twerp was sitting by the door croaking out his awesome Linkin Park covers. Apparently this is a thing with that sandwich chain; don’t know how someone came up with the notion that people eating a $5 sub sandwich want to listen to that nonsense.

Apparently it’s illegal in some jurisdictions to overtake more than 1 car at a time in the oncoming lane. Not sure about where I was.

What was worse for me is the last two occasions were when visiting Polish friends. One of them had a new girlfriend who played the guitar and then after having something to eat, started to playing Polish folk songs. Me and another English guy (who goes out with one of the sisters) just looked at me and me back at him with looks of, ‘what the hell is happening and how can we make a speedy get away’.

Oh okay.

Here it’s frowned upon but generally overtaking any number of cars is okay as long as it’s safe to do so.

Here you may get pulled over by the police for ‘inconsiderate driving’.

But not, ‘driving without due care and attention’, or similar unless you couldn’t adequately see clear enough road ahead, overtaking on or past a junction or bend, cause other road users to take evasive manoeuvres, etc...

Yeah, passing multiple cars at once is widely thought of as being illegal, but I was surprised to find that it’s actually not in my state.

The tricky part is that speeding remains illegal, even during an overtake maneuver. Which is a shame because it rules out a lot of passing opportunities on two-lane roads. You’re basically left having to wait for a HUGE opening in oncoming traffic, or only passing vehicles that are moving EXTRA slowly. If the car in front is moving just a little under the limit, and you can’t commit the next mile or so for passing, you’re pretty much SOL.

Technically that is true. However, in that case I place common sense in advance of the letter of the law.

Well yeah, of course. It’s just something to keep in mind to help measure each situation and see if it’s worth the risk.
