Check this out

The iMiev is still cool though, since it’s rear engine RWD and 4 doors. But Mitsu should’ve offered the non-electric i over here.

That guy’s post was funny.

The irony is not that he’s using a gas generator, it’s that smug message on the bumper. :)

He doesn’t get it.

I can see how this is funny... particularly among the anti-BEV crowd... especially with the smug message on the bumper.

But I find one aspect of this a little annoying because the anti-BEV crowd uses this POS compliance-vehicle-BEV as an “example” of why BEVs aren’t viable.

Personally I think at least some people are overlooking the fact that the picture is from Whistler BC AND the BEV in question is probably THE WORST modern BEV.

You can’t take a short-range compliance vehicle like the iMiEV on a long trip to a place like Whistler without having a Plan B charging option.

And that’s what we’re seeing here... the owner’s Plan B in action on a long distance trip in a vehicle that wasn’t designed for long trips.

I just did some quick and very very sloppy research. It seems if they are just using it to get into the next town they only would have to run for about an hour or two. However if they are aiming for a full charge it would take 15.5 hours using that thing almost to its max. That mean the tank lasts an estimated 3.4 hours. So 5 gallons of gas for 100 miles of charge. I’m going to say if it is only an occasional thing that’s not that bad.

While I get that the MIEV is probably the worst BEV, to me it has a lot more in common with an average BEV. I feel that the experience in the MIEV would be largely representative of what you’d find in other similar EV such as the Leaf or a 500E.

Yeah - but really, if you’re going to use that particular plan B, don’t have that bumper decal.

Also, does the Th!nk City count as a modern BEV? Because it might be worse than the i-MiEV, although it does have significantly more battery, making it better suited to this mission.

Oh, and I’m not actually convinced that the i-MiEV is inherently compliancey, although the version in North America absolutely is (being an embiggened version that makes twelve kinds of no sense). The original one is, still, to this day, the only kei car with any ability to self-propel without the engine running. (Suzuki does have a mild hybrid system in the Wagon R, but mild hybrids can only assist the engine.)

I really don’t think Americans would be interested in the non electric i
