This is something that bothers me a lot. Every time i open a door in a carpark i’m worried about dinging someone’s car.
Is this something you worry about? How do you handle it? Are you just careful? Is it best to fit a small protector in the most likely spot?-

Kinja'd!!!

Use a full length strip?-

Kinja'd!!!

Or go the full nuclear option and fit something like this!-

I just add it to my collection of door dings, I have many.

I’m usually just really careful, but it ain’t fool-proof. I have dinged someone else’s car and its friggin’ terrible.

My mom’s old Volvo had full length strips and it was the best. But it was also a 1993. You can’t put those strips on anything newer than that. You just can’t.

I don’t understand this. I can’t imagine a situation where I’d be paying so little attention that I’d hit someone else car with my door

THe point of this is you want everyone else to have it, not necessarily yourself. I welcome a world where inconsiderate idiots have a lower chance of damaging your vehicle.

I feel like door dings are an assumed risk of parking anywhere. I try to avoid dinging other peoples cars, but I live in the mountains, and it’s super windy here all the time, it’s not that hard to gingerly open the door and have the wind take it. It’s also expected since everyone else has the same problem. I don’t get mad if I see someone ding my car, as long as it’s not intentional.

Now I take care of my car as much as the next guy but worrying about little dings that are bound to happen anyway takes away from my automotive experience. If it doesn’t affect functionality, and aesthetically you can’t see it if you squint or change your angle a bit, I don’t care.

I also have very low standards (my car cost me $1200) and I’m kinda a jerk. I’m sure my opinion will change as I get a nicer car.

While you may be very aware, there are many people who aren’t, especially kids. No matter how often I explained, cajoled, or yelled at my kids, they just couldn’t get it. Part of the problem was the size of the doors they were trying to control. The doors on my wife’s Explorer were just too big for them. The end result was a series of dings down the side of my truck.

None. I try to park as far away from humanity as possible.

I saw these when I was in Germany a few years ago and wondered why Ford offered them in Europe but not the States. We’d like our cars to be ding-free just as much as Europeans!

I just accept that it’s bound to get a few more dings. It’s got one big one one each side but I usually just am careful and if needed, I’ll put my hand on the edge of the door if it’s especially tight.

Those would really be great with a set of curb feelers.

I think dents look better than that big black strip.

I generally protect my car by parking next to a car that I’m pretty sure has lower quality paint and thinner sheet metal on their doors.

I just remember that my parents payed for most of the car and would kill me over a dent. Doesn’t protect me from others though.

I never worry about dinging someone else’s car door; I worry about THEM dinging MY car door.
