It was a summer day in the middle of nowhere Alabama, and I was riding in the back seat of my cousin’s Probe GT. It was cool to me when I was 11. Cochise came on the radio, and my cousin’s foot sank to the floor. We topped the Probe out, as it was a long stretch. It seemed so fast at the time, even if it was only cresting 130. It was the first time I had ever been over 80. That was my first memory of speed, and that song has been stuck in my head with that memory ever since. RIP Chris.

Whether he was with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, Audioslave, or Soundgarden again Chris Cornell was the bard of my youth and early 20s.

While most teenagers and young adults were caught up in the emo, emo-metal, pop, hip-hop, and that weird barroom “rock” music Cornell and his bands spoke to my angsty longing for freedom and the opportunity to do something profound with my life.

A great musician has died and gone and I filled with sorrow because I never got a chance to see him perform live.

Now I have to get off my stuff and see Eddie Vedder as soon as possible.

Agreed. I got to see Foo fighters at Memphis in May, and again in concert with Red Hot Chili Peppers (when John Frusciante was lead guitarist) at Hershey Park before the Dani California album nonsense.

Still need to see Eddie Vedder, so into witness protection he must go
