Kinja'd!!!

Looking at 1-4's that aren’t ACOG for my C308 (cuz ain’t nobody got money for those) and for the price, it does an awful lot.

What you think Oppo? Anyone ever used Vortex Optics?

The rifle in question I’m looking to get optics for.

What rifle is that? Looks FAL-based.

Looks like a G3 / PTR-91. It’s very similar to the FAL in a lot of respects but uses HK’s roller delayed blowback action.

It’s a cousin, CETME. Delayed roller blow back action.

7.62 or 5.56?

Vortex are nice. I prefer Nikon. The one I have came with a website that shows ballestic of the bullet at the zero you set. It factors in the brand and grain. Kinda a nice feature.

I will happily eat 7.62 NATO or 308 Winchester, brass or steel. Kicks like a pissed off mule though, even with the HD buffer.

Was looking at the Nico’s, but they didn’t have a illuminated reticle for around the same.

Kinja'd!!!

The 1-4/6/8x scopes are awesome and a nice alternative to ACOGs because they provide more flexibility - roll it back to 1x and shoot it both eyes open like a red dot, or use the zoom to take far out shots. Can’t do that with a fixed power ACOG. The only downside is they are somewhat on the heavy side (all are close to 1lb.)

I personally run the Primary Arms 1-6x Gen 1 (pictured above) because I like their reticle best. The Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x is basically the identical scope with Vortex’ reticle. They are actually the exact same scope body and glass, from the same factory, side by side they are identical besides the reticle and a few minor details like turret caps. The scope you listed is the PST, which is Vortex fancier line, it’s going to be a really nice, clear scope. Probably a bit better than the Strike Eagle or PA versions, but honestly I’ve had no problem with mine whatsoever. I ran it in a 3 gun back in the fall and had no problems getting hits out at almost 500 yards.

One thing, since that’s a .308 you may want to consider going to a 6x or even 8x (Primary Arms has a new 1-8x that’s very similarly priced). In the 3 gun i mentioned above my friend was running a SCAR-H with a Leupold 1-4x and he remarked that on some of the really far shots (IPSC steel silhouettes at 375 yards and a 24" gong at around 500) he wished he had a bit more zoom. He still shot great, but it’s just something to consider. I’m not trying to muddy the waters, just giving you some other options. I really like that PA 1-8x and think it would be perfect on a .308 battle rifle (I run a 4-14x44 FFP on my .308, but it’s a 24" bull barrel target rifle).

You’ll also need a mount, and I highly recommend the Aero Precision Ultralite 30mm mount. It’s only like 3 or 4 oz. so it really helps offset some of the weight of the scope. It’s also sturdy, as I said I ran it in a 3 gun and beat the snot out of it and it’s given me no problems whatsoever.

Also, happy early birthday, and I love the C308! Awesome gun!

How do you like that rifle? I need a PTR yesterday.

I love it and it’s way cheaper than the PTR yet, it has a PTR receiver. Century Arms has a winner with this one.

And btw, love your bulpup how does it handle? Must be way easier to swing around than my lump.

Always been curious about 3 gunning, it looks like a whole lot of fun.

I’ve heard great things about Vortex. Although IMHO I prefer a red dot/holo sight with a magnifier.

I also want a C308. Badly.

Btw, those have gone on sale twice in the last few months for less than $400. I picked up mine for $360! If you are in Louisiana, welcome to take a peek through it.

Check out reddit.com/r/gundeals for uh gun deals.

EDIT: I totally forgot. I love mine. I wasn’t sure if 4x would be enough to shoot around 200 or 3oo yards and it is. Very clear glass.

I will admit there is something neat about going to the range where everyone else is firing 5.56 or .223, squeezing off a few rounds and have them turn around to see what you’re doing. 7.62 fires with authority lol.

Luckily it was in an outdoor range. I’d love to try a short barrel 7.62 rifle indoors haha!

Vortex makes good stuff, and they have a price range for every need. The Viper line is great; my cousin just recently put one on his 7mm Remington 700 LR. Crystal clear.

Thank you. It’s the Keltec RDB, which is their latest one and it’s awesome. If you’re not familiar with them, I’d suggest looking them up but I’d call it the perfect bullpup. Full ambidextrous controls (only the charging handle needs to be swapped, takes less than a minute to do and doesn’t need tools). It also ejects downwards behind the magazine you don’t have to worry about brass in the face. The beautiful part is it’s so simple compared to a lot of other bullpups, and has one of the best factory triggers I’ve ever shot, not just for bullpups, but any battle rifle.

It handles great, I love the way it balances and it’s quite accurate. The manual of arms for it is also fantastic - forward charging handle (right below the scope), ambi safety located about where it is on an AR, and the ambi mag release is actually on the front of the magwell. What I love is that when it runs dry I can keep it shouldered and rock my firing hand back and tap the mag release and drop the empty even as my support hand is going for a new magazine, so reloads are quick and easy. I wish it had a bit of a flared magwell or something though, as it does take a bit more concentration to get the mag in and seated than an AR. Im sure that skill will come with time but I still think a flared well would help.

And if you’re interested in 3 gunning, all I can say is get out there and do it! Get a pistol belt, holster, and a couple kangaroo mag pouches (rifle mags in back, pistol in front) and a dump bag for shotgun shells, and slings for your long guns. Its the cheapest, easiest way to start, you don’t need a fancy chest rig and all that. Run a match or 2 like that and see how you like it, and then start buying gear accordingly. Also, if you’re in the DC area, the match I was referencing above is the annual Zombie Invitational 3 Gun. It’s a very chill match and it’s run as a 2 day - 2 gun event, so pistol/rifle on the first day and pistol/shotgun on the second. If you’re interested I can get you more info.

Thanks for the info! I’m in Jersey so DC isn’t too bad a drive for me, I’ve been looking around for matches near me and will see if the timing lines up.

I think I’m going to add the Keltec RDB to my wishlist lol, although I have to see if it’s even Jersey legal first. Stupid “assault weapon” ban.

You’re welcome, always glad to help out. The match I was referencing is in October, so you’ll have time to prepare. The website is here:  https://www.zombieinvitational.com/ Go to the contact page and send your contact info and they will send you back a registration form and more info. If you want to run only 1 day (so a 2 gun, just pistol/rifle or just pistol/shotgun) you can do that (though I don’t think its mentioned that anywhere on the site). If you end up doing it and want to be in my squad, mention that you want to run with Mark Gates.

Above is the promo video for the match. Just to brag a little, my hands are featured at 1:02 and 1:24 shooting my Steyr L9-A1 pistol and Mossberg 930 JM Pro, respectively. Also, at the very end of the video is an AR lying in a pile of brass - that’s my gun from the 2015 match. As I said, it’s pretty chill, and most of the guys who show up are current or former LEO or MIL types, not too many competition shooters out there blazing through stages like Keanu practicing for John Wick (check those videos out if you haven’t seen them). We’re mostly old(ish) dudes, low speed, high drag types. It’s fun, chill, and a good way to get into 3 gun.

Biggest things I can recommend - first and foremost safe weapons handling practices. Beyond that is fitness. This is run as an iron man style event, each morning you pack out all your gear for the day and have to hump it with you the whole time. You’ll walk about 5 miles, plus running anywhere from 10 yards up to a couple hundred yards in each stage, and there are 6 stages. It’s not to scare you off, just understand that it’s physically demanding. But I did it in 2015 and I was woefully out of shape (I put on about 40lbs since I got out of the Navy) and I still survived, that aspect just sucked. This year I’ve been running and lifting regularly and intend to crush it!

Let me know if you decide to do it, we’d love to have you onboard.

Awesome, thanks for the info! I’ll check it out and let you know, October is a little dodgy timing wise because of work but we’ll see closer to the time (I work for MLB so weekends in October are sometimes just more weekdays lol).

Fitness wise, I’d have to do something about that because I’ve let myself get lazy over the last couple of years but this type of thing a good way to get back into shape in addition to just working out. I spend my days in front of a computer and sitting on a train so I’ve definitely gotten soft and flabby.

I grew up in a military family, so safely handling a gun was instilled/beaten into me at a very young age and I learned on an Enfield and .38 special so imagine a 10 year old firing those and that was me lol (grew up in South Africa in the 80's/90's so my dad taught us all how to shoot and where all the guns were in the house if we needed to get to them).

In short, the gun is ALWAYS loaded so treat it as such.

That said, competitive shooting in any form is new to me so I’d definitely be a newbie in that regard. The more I watch video’s the more I think I might want to take a few more pistol training courses before I feel comfortable enough not to make a complete arse of myself, just a regular arse lol. Maybe that’s what I’ll ask my wife for my birthday...

Anyway, thanks so much for the info and I’ll let you know well before the time so you’re not waiting on me.
