Did you release him back into the wild?
Every so often I’ll come across a turtle/tortoise in the road and will help it cross. Except snapping turtles. Those fuckers are nasty. I won’t touch them unless I find something like a big branch or something to pick it up/move it along with.

I cleaned pools for a summer. Cleaning the skimmers was always a bit scary, especially at pools adjacent to golf courses. The worst I found was a live water moccasin. Dead rabbits, rats, and other small woodland creatures was common. The guy I worked with found a dead fawn once.
I take that back, the worst was the guy who let his kids fill the skimmer with toys, then mowed his lawn into the pool. It wasn’t unusual for the safety to have kicked in and shut down the pump on that pool. If I owned the company, I would have charged double for that a-hole.

At my previous employment, we couldn’t touch much less move any tortoises when they crossed a road, because they were protected by law, so we had to wait for them to cross or find another road. Something about passing diseases/contaminants or some such.
