This video pisses me off. He picks the whats basically the worst model year you could get for this generation then proceeds to basically shit all over it. I never understood the disdain for these. Sure I guess if you got the auto maybe I could see the lack of love for them. How ever if your going to make a video for one how about not picking a shitbox knuckle dragger and then proceed to just shit all over it and the rest of the generation.

Yes this one is a dog. It’s obviously had a hard life, but these were great little cars with spunk! You just sort of maybe have to have the right one? My buddy growing up had an ‘03 gt-s the proper way with the 6MT and a 8200 rpm red line. cause yes that’s how the GT-S was suppose to be spec’d. that got you a smidge (189hp) more horse power and the ability to stay in the lift during shifts. That right there really makes the difference I suppose. I loved that car, the shifter throws were short and precise with a light clutch and the way it rev’s. hot damn that 2zz is something, though I suppose sandbagging with an autotragic might take that love joy away.

How ever why would you pick that and then shit all over it when you could go the other way? The real GT-S handles like a go kart and is visceral to drive. rev’ing to 8200rpm and hitting that limit would unleash a bark and a pop, which was followed by an above lift shift accompanied by the revs screaming back to the top for more! the best part is in every day driving you could break 40mpg while having fun too! I mean really when it comes to FWD sport coupes wtf more do you want?

Just remember that RCR is a car themed comedy series more than a car review show. Keep it in the same category as Old Top Gear.

I get that. I do but there is usually some credibility to them, some iota of actuality to them. this just felt like he wanted to shit on this car. In the same way people who have never heard more than ‘Rockstar” or “Photograph” jump on the hating nickel back bandwagon. Yes, nicklenack sucks but that’s not my point. Atleast try to know more of their material if you’re gonna take a shit on them and don’t be just another sheep taking easy shots at the awkward kid who doesn’t know any better because no ones ever given them anything better to listen too. The Celica GT-S deserves better than that. Yes there’s low points in this generation Celica for sure but ultimately too me focusing on them is like saying pink floyd was a trash band because the only song you heard was Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In a Cave and Grooving With a Pict and you were’t hip enough to get a dosed before hand so it went over you heard and just said no thanks pink Floyd isn’t for me...

I’m pretty sure RCR reviews cars he’s given by fans, not ones he hand picks from collections.

That last sentence had me out of breath just reading it.

Also, this was my lol of the day:

Yes, nicklenack sucks but that’s not my point.

BTW, I understand you because one of the early RCRs was a king sized dump on the RX-8, my car. It was mostly a respewing of internet memes about the car. Eh. I know that car better than he, so who cares?

wasn’t that the Reddit scripted one though. I look at that more of a high concept video than an actual RCR. I can forgive that one for that alone. and no one cares, all those videos are great. even the aforementioned Celica video. It just annoyed me so I wanted to share that. haha

hey look no long winded sentences this time.

true, that you are. How ever I feel like he could have not just gone after the whole 7th generation with such a broad stroke with out at least acknowledging the fact that these offered so much more in the right Trim. Really that’s my hang up. it’s be like me doing a video and stating all current Gen mustangs are a bit rubbish when I drove a v6 rental car on it’s forty firth thousand mile of hard time across the Nevada desert high on a $50 black jack win and free well whiskey. Then didn’t acknowledge any other offerings that existed.

You’ve got a point, but what percentage of Celicas sold were the “right trim” that you describe? I’d guess maybe, maybe 5% of them. It’s rare just to find a GT-S. Regular Car Reviews, as others have mentioned, is a comedy based show. He reviews the car in terms of how it’s usually found in his part of the world, not in the idealized trim that hardly anyone bought new.

I feel like you’re missing the point of RCR.

Mr. Regular does it for a laugh. He shit all over the Pontiac Trans Am (2 generations too, IIRC) and then came out with this (and probably my favorite review so far):

Kinja'd!!!

Try not to take him too seriously. It’s all in the name of entertainment.

Haven’t watched it, but he always shits on everything from what i can tell.
7th gen Celica’s have aged pretty poorly in the looks department if i’m honest, but yeah, i’m annoyed by the amount of crap they catch in general as well.

People are pretty willing to talk shit about them on Jalopnik too. They forget just how light they were. At roughly 2400lbs they were 400ish pounds lighter than just about anything on the road today, save a miata (which is 30+ hp down on this decade and a half old Toyota.) They were also about 200 lbs lighter than the previous generation of celica. Nobody does that. When’s the last time a car got lighter in subsequent generations (heh, okay again miata, but i digress.)

Fantastic handling for a FWD car without an LSD, an engine that puts fun before all else and an extremely slick shifter, all combined to make it a stellar car to drive for the money. I’ve considered buying one as a second car, but I sort of want the even frumpier looking Corolla XR-S even more, despite the extra weight.

He drives very typical examples of a given car. I’d say the one he drove was like basically every one I’ve encountered. For example, I’ve never seen a manual one. Ever.

In reality, it was a pretty kind review. It didn’t gush love like he did for my car, but he has said far worse about far better cars.

Just appreciate that he could have said so much worse about it.

Ehh, he actually is pretty positive about the car, he calls it fun and good near the end. He’s been way harsher on other cars with similar WTF feelings about the review. The 944 he reviewed had oversized rims and tires and a vacuum leak...

Don’t take it to hard.

I had a 2004 T-Sport one, I didn’t get on with it at all and sold it after 12 months. Mine was a mint 1 previous owner low mileage one, was only 3 years old.
