I always wondered why some local news stations do this and none of mine ever did... For a while I was the ONLY regular uploader of bad drivers in the Milwaukee area.

It does help with the subs and views though. Enjoy!

what would have made that news clip even more awesome is if someone had done some stupid driving in the background while Chief Lyons was speaking.

Good! More people in your state need to see these videos.

The Kia driver at 1:36 probably couldn’t see. There’s hardly any room left for the Kia to pull ahead of the Ram. You had a better viewing angle of the approaching traffic than the Kia driver.

Did they contact you and get your permission to use that video before they included it in that package? I sincerely hope they did.

Wouldn’t Fair Use come into play here?

Yes and no. It’s a public viewable channel, but Duesenberg is a private individual. As a journalist myself, I wouldn’t use that footage without getting his permission first. If it was a publicly viewable video from a public figure, though, like a politician or something like that, then that’s a little different.

It happens to me a lot when I’m trying to turn right on red. Somebody in another lane is way out past the stop line (with another car directly behind them), and I’m faced with the choice of either blocking the crosswalk myself for a better view, or waiting for the light to turn green. No way am I gonna pull into the intersection blindly.

It’s too bad that the Ram driver pulled so far ahead. Your state’s habits towards having painted stop lines seems really random. Sometimes they’re there, sometimes they’re not, and that particular one doesn’t even have a crosswalk for reference.

Like the reporter doing a report on an intersection being dangerous and a crash happening at that very same intersection during the report.

Forwarding to my in-laws to make sure they aren’t in any of the videos.

LOL @ “Cornhusker drivers school - a tradition of excellence since 1966. ”

I’d say, since you got to get up pretty early in life to snag that “Husker” name for your business.

I hate the focus on speed. Modern cars are more stable, stop faster, and are more safe than speed limits take into account. Racing, distracted, and reckless driving is what causes issues.

Nice shout out!

How do you compile these? Do you have a way to mark when these things happen? Or do you have to scrub through the whole video to find the offenses.

I do appreciate the editing, though - sometimes you look at a video of a traffic offense and have to watch 45 seconds of normal driving to see the stupid thing in the last 2 seconds. Well done in that regard.

Your videos also demostrate how to drive defensively. The videos that popped up a little while ago of a guy in a yellow SUV with a brush guard on the front showed what happens if you never, ever yield to other drivers no matter how stupid they act. It turns out you will get into collisions, often.

I technically “scrub through” rather than marking, but I have methods that make it go very quickly. I use iMovie and Quicktimeplayer.

Yup, I was the one who shared those. Dude needed to seriously up his defensive driving game.

I was going to say this. Sometimes you can see better one car back than they can. And you’ve always got better perception of their speed because of the angle you’re looking from. I know I’ve been pissed off at people that wouldn’t turn only to do the same thing when they finally did turn.

But most of the time these people ARE morons... And being in an old, white Kia I’m inclined to blame incompetence rather than lack of visibility. I know that’s stereotyping, but the facts are the facts... the people that seem the least comfortable driving are most often seen in cheap crap cars.

The facts are that every incedent has multiple factors. I’d venture to say speed is rarely a “top” factor (in comparison to others). Distraction on top, there’s no situation where it doesn’t screw things up. Intoxication... there are different degrees, different times of day, different temperaments, different traffic conditions. Not saying you should drive intoxicated (don’t), but a couple drinks in someone who is aware of what they’re doing in light night traffic=/=blitzed guy who doesn’t think alcohol (or whatev) affects him in rush hour. Reckless driving is such a diluted term legally that I absolutely despise it and it gets moved down here. In the technical sense I feel it should be higher—you’re literally driving “0 fucks given”. Racing imo is even further down, because it’s kind of like reckless except you should have a little more sense of self preservation. By definition at least.

Speed is totally harmless in itself. It makes accidents more deadly, sure... but something else causes them, unless your vehicle physically isn’t up to the mark to handle the speed. And with anything halfways modern, that’s pretty damn fast...

I suppose after a while you remember the times and places, etc. It would be cool if there was a way to mark with the camera, like a remote little button you could push, like a remote mute for a radar detector that becomes second nature. Just thinking out loud, really...

And seriously, the guy in the yellow SUV. How many accidents would you have gotten into by now if you drove like that? If you drove like that in NYC you’d get into an accident every freaking block.

1. I think expensive cameras have that. mine has something where you can press a button that stops that particular clip from being overwritten but it does not market.

2. So many accidents.

Definitely a city of bad drivers. Stupid ones, mainly. Not the crazed murderous ones in SLC or the third world of the Bay Area and Seattle (although the traffic makes it hard to do much here), but bad nonetheless.
