*cue people droning on about how unnecessary it is to cover it up*

No point in covering the plate, we already know you’re a criminal based on vehicle choice. That’s more shade than your trunk lid gets. BURN /s

It does look huge from this angle. I considered the wing delete, but I have to say that every time I see that ridiculous wing in the mirror, I smile. “Uh oh, was that a cop!?” *checks mirror* “Haha, wing! Who cares?”

This would (will?) be an embarrassing vehicle to get pulled over in. “No, officer, it just looked like I was going that fast.”

I’m so torn on the ridiculous wing, but I’d have to keep it because it is so stupidly over the top.

The only thing that can make the STI wing look less massive:

Yes, almost literally over the top.

It’s fun how much it confuses my coworkers. Everyone who works here (with one exception) has incredibly boring cars, but several of them have expressed interest or confusion about my car. The manual transmission has gotten more questions than the wing, though.

Def will. I had mine 6 months and was pulled over 5 times. I was also 20, so there is that haha.

Luckily, I’m a perfectly responsible adult. As you can tell by the wing, obviously.

Only one ticket from all of those though. The last time the cop came up to the window and said “wow this car really moves!” to which I said, “ Yeah it does!” the officer was laughing and then did the best “funny face” to “serious face” transition I have ever seen and said “get the fuck out of the car!”

Don’t delete it! It is really not that ridiculous in person. They look great.

I think the wing is so tall so that it can also serve as a rear attachment point for a roof rack, right? I kid, I kid

I get that. My coworker was mystified about why his car would, “get louder” as he had to press the gas the drive up a hill in San Francisco. I started to explain and then realized it was a useless exercise and promptly changed the topic. I don’t even disclose I have a manual at work unless someone shows interest in cars because I don’t want to explain why there’s a third pedal and what it’s for.

My answer for the manual was that I couldn’t afford the automatic. I’m not sure if they picked up on my sarcasm. It was partially true, since an auto-trans-swap on an STi would be expensive.

I do think it makes the car look better. The wing basically fills in the space where the hatch should be.

Haha! I actually chuckled a bit at that. How do you like the STi? I keep finding myself really wanting one even if it’s got the older engine and horrible gas mileage.

I’m coming off of the honeymoon phase a bit, but I still really like the car. The ride and road noise are my only real complaints. When I’m driving alone, I don’t really mind the harsh ride, but I cringe when I see my passengers bouncing around so much. The solution to that, of course, is to drive faster.

Since I bought the car, I’ve averaged 19 mpg, which is not great, but not awful, considering the traffic around here. Very little of those miles were open highway.

The driving experience, which was my number 2 criteria after back seat room and doors, is excellent. It’s more engaging than my 135i because of a little better steering feel and much better throttle sensitivity (except in S#, which is just silly). It weighs the same as the 135i and has similar power, but it has 4 doors and awd (and a giant wing).

I’ve always loved the STi and Evo, and I decided I had to get one soon before I get any older and end up in a 330xi, which is “basically the same.” The STi is raw, and right now I enjoy that in a way that I know is temporary.

That’s a very honest take. That ride quality seems similar to the BRZ. It’s like a solid linkage to the ground when you drive at 5mph. And as you speed up it gets more supple.

The wing, as outlandish as it is, would be a selling point for me. It’s louder and more obnoxious than it has any right to be yet I love it.
