Here is a buffer against the horrific image to follow. Do not proceed if you are faint at heart.
Don’t say I did not warn you.
I appear to have developed an infection in my lower eyelid, which is red, swollen and painful.
My eye seems to be fine, but I feel awful. I will be headed to the doctor when they open. Crap.

Looks like a stye . Somewhat common. Try holding a warm washcloth on it a few times.

Maybe allergies caused you to rub your eye too much and cause a skin break and infection. Walk it off
Maybe a stye - walk it off.

Going to the doctor is a wise idea, an infection around the eye is something you don’t want to mess with.
My wife had something similar a few years back and ended up in the hospital for 3 days with an antibiotic resistant staph infection.

Yeah, probably a stye. Doctor, maybe some antibiotics, warm wash clothe, and sunglasses when you need to go out in public.
Been there, done that.
