!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Those headers and that exhaust on a R129 V12 would basically create the perfect car. Every M120 should sound like that.

There is of course the famous video of the W22o with presumably equal-length headers and a custom exhaust screaming like a Zonda or F1 car. If you haven’t seen it, it’s here .

This is the first time I’ve seen a video of a similar setup on a W140. The M120 V12 was, of course, the same engine used in the Zonda C12 and CLK GTR. Naturally it was bored and stroked for those applications and made with slightly upgraded internals. Some S-Classes were built with these higher displacement engines including the super rare  Mercedes S70 AMG with a 7.0 L displacement and the even rarer S73 AMG Wagon with the full 7.3 L displacement of the Zonda.

As for pairing a proper transmission to that, apparently some six cylinder S-Classes and SLs came with manual transmissions but those boxes were apparently quite weak and rather sloppy to operate. I suppose a later SL with the 5G Tronic would suffice if you have the sound to make up for it.

(Fun fact: My computer’s autocorrect automatically changes “Zonda” to “Honda”.)

Too bad its incredibly expensive and each system is hand crafted, shipped from Japan no less (W140 Brilliant Exhaust system is 1M Yen or 9000 USD). That being said, Technical Garage Sasaki produces some amazing work.

Their 599 system is eargasmic too.

That equal length header thing is best applied to M120 cars, W140s or R129s. The W220 in which it was originally done is a nice testbed for the development of those kits, but no sound is worth living with a 5.8 M137, or any bored or stroked derivitive thereof. If I’m ever monied enough to own a yacht, I will use an M137 the way god intended...as a boat anchor.

So $15000 for a good SL600 plus $9000 for the exhaust plus maybe $1000 for shipping and installation?

I’d pay $25,000 for a good-looking V12 Merc which sounds like a Zonda. Maybe one day I’ll have a garage space...

I want more goddamn money! Their initial offer was good, but I want more...but I’m going to be forced to stop fighting because I just got hired and I no longer have the luxury of unemployment to not have a car.

$13,250. Then 10% salvage value and A $1,000 deductible off of that which is why I’m trying to get more.

That makes sense. How much will it cost to buy it back and completely the necessary repairs?

They sell it back at 10% of whatever they pay as salvage value. I found 85% of necessary parts on eBay for around $2,000. The hood, fenders, and bumper will require paint, but beyond that it’s just disassembly/reassembly...I don’t know, I’m gonna dump everything into the car one way or another.

Lol that’s the spirit ! Are you finally going to fix that rear main seal or is that still out of range?

EVAP stuff to pass inspection first, harmonic balancer while the front end is off, then a new rack and pinion.

Those all sound like worthy causes. I might finally replace my PSE pump soon...

I was just about to add that those headers are about $10k. They are absolute works of art.

I have been shopping for the right late 90's early 2000's SL6 though for this reason. If my interest gets from the curiosity stage to the lust stage, I might have to do a little shopping in CA or FL.
