My Ducati Monster 796 is sick (it’s running like shit) so it’s at the dealer getting diagnosed. Thing won’t stay running when cold, and then when it does run, it gets warm (naturally) and then backfires like crazy and then runs like it’s too rich/lean on the fueling.. They don’t lie when they say Italian bikes are expensive.. Bike for your time.

Looks like stock exhaust. Are you running any aftermarket fuel controllers like a Power Commander, or have you had the ECU flashed?

Nope, no fuel controllers. Don’t think the ECU was re-flashed, although the previous owner had race pipe/exhaust on it before (SC project), so it could just be an ECU issue.

My guess is they will reset the fuel trim and sync the throttle bodies. Then go from there. Typically this is all that’s needed on rough running Ducs in their OE setup.

Possibly something in relation to removing that. If the ECU was flashed for an open exhaust, and you put a stock one on, that will definitely cause fueling issues. I’m not sure how “adaptive” they are, if the ECU could have “learned” the open exhaust, but disconnecting the battery for a while in an attempt to force a reset probably won’t hurt.

I’m curious to know how this turns out. Hopefully something simple like fuel pump or adaptation reset and software.

Swapped them earlier and they didn’t make a difference
