Seems like a nice price . . . but something seems fishy about it. I would go into it very mistrustful.

I wouldn’t touch it. My brother-in-law had one of a similar vintage. Required 93-octane gasoline (maybe the knock sensor cause?) and took a VERY expensive air conditioner dump that he ultimately dumped the car because of.

I only glanced at the CL posting, but my sniff test nose is suspicious.

I would not consider unless the title was in hand. It does look like it needs some work but it’s a good price even so.

Something about CL always makes people forget tenses.

“NEEDS REPLACED”

“NEEDS GONE THRU”

Needs replacing? Needs to be replaced? Needed to be replaced? Your lack of caring makes it really hard to understand what’s happening here, Mr or Mrs CL Seller.

Maybe here:

I would do the repairs but my arm is in a sling and we need a third row vehicle.

or:

I needed to get the title for it and it will be here in a few weeks.

Here comes the stereotyping: This vintage of luxury car can have very questionable owners — status-seekers who want the badge, but not the repairs and maintenance that come with owning even a basic car. There should be plenty of one-owner Lexi from this era with full records. I’d pay more for that, even if it had 120k-150k miles.

I always wonder about knock sensor “failures”. Most of the time people misread the code, and in fact something is causing the sensor to set a fault because it’s exceeded its response range, like lack of oil or low-grade gas.

As Ash said, there are better examples out there, but for $3k, I would at least inspect it.

Normally I’d run away screaming from a car like this with hail damage and no title. In this case though the price is low enough to at least give it a look if you can confirm that a replacement title is actually on the way.

Any guesses on the mileage discrepancy, replacement gauge cluster perhaps? The difference between having 66k miles and 199k should be easy to determine based on wear and tear of the interior.
