So how did Oppo lunch?

Here’s mine. A beef brochette with lentils, carrots and a sauce whose name escapes me. €11 it cost me in a park in Rennes. For the benefit of American and Canadian viewers, €11 means just that, €11. It’s not €11 plus several layers of tax plus the waitress’s wages so you end up paying €15.50 or something.

It was quite good, thank you.

Spent a semester in France- not having to add sales tax + tip while knowing that it wasn’t killing the staff’s pay for the night was awesome.

Looks delicious!

I’m debating what, if anything, I’m going to have for lunch. Might just pour another cup of coffee and wait until dinner to eat.

Even though that ’ s more than I normally spend on lunch + tax + tip at most places, I love prix fixe in principal. It ’ s just less headache, less drama. And in places like San Francisco, they add yet another layer of tax for “ living wage ” or something. Sort of like the “ bread fee ” in parts of Italy. I hate paying hidden fees, but “ all - in pricing ” has been proven to result in higher overall prices to the consumer. But it ’ s mentally easier.

A Costco chicken bake, a Costco churro, and 2 soft drinks for the madam and I to eat for all of like $5-$6.

Looks good.

I’ve never been a lentil person but willing to try new things.

For me, it was lasagne and garlic and parsley ciabata slices.

I think the purple veg was purple carrots, which are a thing.

There are places in rural France (top tip: the more trucks and vans parked outside, the better) where you get starter, main, dessert, possibly a cheeseboard, coffee and a bottle of wine and/or cider on the table for about €11 or €12.

Purple carrots being the original colour of carrots before the Dutch plant engineered them to be orange.

White carrots are a little sweet still but purple carrots have a good flavour.

We’ve started selling purple Majesty potato fries at our place.

It’s interesting seeing new varieties and giving them all a go.

I hope you enjoyed you lunch and your stay in France.

That’s a darn steal for all of that. Costco is our go to if I’m getting gas while running around. Most other places in this area are fast food and busy or sit down and expensive

I wish we had more individual owned reasonable restaurants in the US. Too many fast food places and processed foods. When I lived in Houston we had a few small places with fresh food that were comparable to what you’re eating. My favorite was a small place in a mall that had the best California style chicken sandwiches around. They had homemade veggie chips and pickles on the side. The sandwich add ons were bean sprouts, cucumber, avocado, romaine lettuce and a yogurt spread. Was my favorite lunch aside from some of the best Tex-Mex food on earth around the west side neighborhoods. I also used to go to a small grocer in Katy TX that made beef brisket that you purchased from the butcher with sauce for not more that if it were raw meat. If its still there its one of the few places I’d have to return to for food if I ever traveled back that far south.
