Dumbass #1. no, skirting the end of an intersection does not count as a right turn and a u turn so you can go through the intersection. you took a left on red. you suck

Dumbass #2 is the red arrow. The blue arrows represent the direction of traffic and probably account for about 30 cars per arrow. after I passed dumbass they made a u-turn and headed the correct way. I’m guessing they came from the far right which is a long way to travel with oncoming traffic.

Honestly I have no problem with the first. It’s actually safer than a full right and u-turn because you can pull it off faster, and still qualifies as more “technically legal” than just turning left. Even though just turning left is the safest choice of all.

All the more reason why that new law (can’t remember where) about being able to go through a red if traffic is clear and the light is taking too long is a good thing. Personally I think red lights on minor streets or major/minor intersections should be stop signs, or treated that way during off-peak hours. Such as turning them flashing yellow one way and flashing red the other.

Look closer at the photo, there is a center lane, dumbass turned from the right turn lane to make a left. I almost ran right into an idiot who did the same dumbass thing.

Wow, that’s pretty blatant at just trying to skirt an intersection.

And considering U-turns are frowned upon in my state (NJ), this person would probably be subjected to quite a few tickets.

The second one, WTF. How did they travel that far and not realize they’re going the wrong way? Some people shouldn’t be allowed to drive.

The dumbassery that’s becoming alarmingly more common around my parts is people making right turns from the left lane. I’ve seen it several times in the past month or two.

yea... this was 730 this morning, right in the middle of the morning commute. He managed to find a gap in traffic, not an empty road.

Yeah, I can see where you’re coming from there. I wouldn’t mind if the rules were relaxed a bit for empty road -type situations.

I think we should implement the top gear old people’s car consequences.

Correct. But if you were going to make a right turn/U-turn to go left on a red, you’d start from the right lane because you were starting with a right turn.

Like I said I have no problem with this move (and no I’m not trying to make excuses for something I habitually practise--I don’t) because done properly it’s perfectly safe, safer in fact than doing the full right+u turn because you’re out of the way faster. Doing it in such a way that you almost hit/get hit by someone isn’t doing it properly.

Then I agree with your judgement--he’s a dumbass.
