Yesterday was one of the worst I’ve seen and a solemn reminder of the inherent dangers of aviation. Just another reason why I always wish flight crews a safe flight before I hang up the phone. Blue skies and tailwinds to those that were lost.

I’m a port contractor at Teterboro so I’m somewhat limited as to what I can publicly say. Yesterday we had a fatal aircraft incident around 1530 about a half hour after I went on duty. Plenty of press coverage available though by now. NTSB got there late last night to process the scene today.

I’m nearby and saw the plume of smoke. Didnt know it was a Lear 35 crash until later.

My sister called me as she left school (she teaches less than a mile from there) to say she could see heavy smoke to the south. We both knew what it probably was...sadly no survivors. Amazing no one was hurt on the ground. Departures from TEB are constantly over my house on their climb to 6K feet.
Way too soon, but as has been widely reported, it was crazy windy here yesterday with gusts up to 40mph.

A departing pilot had radioed experiencing wind shear departing 24. I’d hazard a guess that they flew their approach too slow for the wind conditions or weren’t able to respond quick enough to escape the shear, gusting 39 as reported before the crash at TEB. Quiet ATC usually points to something other than a mechanical.

The guys that work in the public works building were reported to have left work just 15 min before impact. Sometimes your number gets called sometimes you walk away wondering what could’ve happened.
