Kinja'd!!!

Called the GM dealer to see how much it would be to replace the DRL module on the Vibe. Care to guess? The prize for being closest is nothing but pride for your arbitrary guess.

My friend has an 03/04 Vibe parts car. I’m sure he wouldn’t want much, if anything, for the DRL module.

Damn. Called for a quote on pads and rotors front and back just to see what I save myself when I do my own. Could have bought a beater or project car with the difference. I would imagine this isn’t a nasty bulb to change but know some are a beast (I’m looking at you 2002 nissan maxima fog light)

Same dealership quoted me almost $400 to do the front brake pads. I did them myself for maybe $40.00 and not even an hour of work.

No, and that’s less than the price they gave me for the part ALONE

I thought you just wanted parts price and for the earlier Vibes GM’s suggested retail was about that. I forgot to consider you live in California where they like to bump the price on everything and labor there should be probably twice what Cleveland area is. I think labor for those is about two hours. I’ll say labor is 1.5x Midwest and guess roughly $525 total with what the California whack is.

Well I’m in WA, not CA (same coast, no biggie). The part alone was indeed $175... I found the same part online for $99 (but then fast shipping made the ultimate savings minimal).

Sorry, I was a little too far south.

Its no surprise at the price, in our dealership if I use the price escalator built into our system it would have given a 10% price bump over suggested list which would have put it over what they quoted you. I seldom use it.

Agreed. I have however met my match with some pressed hubs on some cars that you have to pull the wheel bearing to remove the rotor. Older audi and an older honda accord were the only brake jobs that ever took more than an hour and 50 bucks to complete with just basic tools.

Ayeeee... so dealers arbitrarily markup parts’ prices?

I’m not surprised by the markup, but the potential fact that it’s up to the parts guy whether he feels like marking parts up (even higher)...?

Is there a 10-digit part number on it? like 99332-10910? If so, that’s the Toyota part number. You could drop into a Toytoa dealer and see if there is any price difference through them.

Many management systems have the parts escalator installed, its up to us if its used or not. I do it just enough to keep the bosses off my back. Our local Nissan, VW,BMW & Mitsubishi dealers do it worse than most. I can call another dealership across town or a city away and get parts much cheaper. Its been dictated to charge what the market can bear. Go shop for any item and you’ll see price fluctuations. The items usually have a “suggested” list. That “suggested” is what makes the prices not be fixed. I have wholesale customers that come to me because my suggested wholesale is cheaper than a couple of other nearby dealers.

Well GM list on that module is $273.30 and it it a 7/10 ths job. Here our shop is $140 so for us $98 install. So $371.30 plus tax

Must be cheaper labor there, or you were getting a discount on parts
