We’re supposed to be working the radio and phones, but when there’s no adult supervision in the room everyone seems to be busy texting on their phones. I’m drowning trying to keep up with all of the calls, and they’re chatting away like we’ve got spare time. WTF? We were all written up for failing to follow procedure, which doesn’t mean a hell of a lot if we all got in trouble, but you’d think some of them would take this warning to heart. Nope. Now to hit the sack so I can be back at 0300 to torture myself again.

Mazda Sky Lounge for your time...

That’s why call centers have gone to auto answer and no way to put the phone on pause.

Oh, but the customer service agents frequently put people on hold after auto answer. But when a driver calls in they need to be tended to immediately. We had to call EMS for three separate incidents this morning; it could be life or death (usually not), but your damn texts can wait...

I agree fully I train people to work in call centers, I’m so surprised at the number who quit because they don’t understand the phones answer themselves. I want to scream THAT IS YOUR JOB

Yeah, I feel your pain. Our reservations department seems to have a rotating door, with people not making it very long. Yes, our customers can be a pain to deal with at times since they are the ones generally on the fringes of society and not the most mentally capable, but you should understand that and work with their limitations. Whenever I hear someone raise their voice or get snarky with customers I know that they won’t be around long, although one that I thought would be gone recently got hired FT from being a temp. Let’s see how long that actually lasts.

The customer service part of the job, dealing with same-day issues, can be a challenge, especially since management wants a 42 second call time average. Most of the calls are fairly quick, but when everything goes to hell in a handbasket, dealing with complaint after complaint after complaint can be quite the burden. Eight hours of that and you want to hang yourself. And when drivers get flaky and unresponsive it makes giving customers accurate updates a real challenge. The trick when they want to bitch seems to be asking them what they want to do now; they usually don’t have an answer so you can just move on to the next complaint...

I had to have a meeting with a new hire today, he was hired for a tech support position and was having difficulty managing multiple log ins.

Sounds kind of like the discussion I heard a few years ago between a network admin with a fresh MCSE and our overpaid Unix consultant discussing the number of drives required and the striping methods used in a RAID5 array. Both were so absolutely and hysterically wrong it made me question the value of said certification and the mills that crank out these know-nothings that can pass a test without comprehending the source material as well as why we were paying this goober ridiculous sums of money to administer a couple of Unix boxes. Thankfully they were pretty stable so we didn’t need him very often.

Sorry to hear about your work issues, but lets talk about what’s really important. That Mazda. That is glorious. Quickly became my favorite van.
