I got an inspection done on it and it’s not as bad as I know it can be. I was dumb, don’t be like me. I didn’t do a thorough multipoint inspection before buying it, I didn’t do a car fax, I didn’t even check the oil level(more on that later). I did luck out however. A friend of friend runs a small indie shop so I sent it over there and he said he wasn’t going to sugar coat what its issues are. Here’s the list:

Transmission fluid low and discolored- $89.95-$140

Serpentine belt worn-$80

Valve cover gasket - $290

Left brake light broken

Oil pan gasket

Front main seal replaced-$360

Right rear lower control arm bushings

Oil change - $59.95

Left rear window doesn’t roll up from main switch

Left tail light housing broken

Back window scratched up

Codes:

P1576 - brake light switch

(These are misfire codes)

P1312

P1334

P1303

P0303

Probably needs a new ignition cassette and spark plugs - $160

The oil level was pretty low but not catastrophic and the atf is quite low.

I’m gonna have the shop take care of the serpentine belt and the front main seal as well as service the transmission. I’ll end up doing the valve cover gasket(it’s seriously a 30 minute job) the oil change, the ignition cassette and spark plugs and if the oil continues to leak around the oil pan I’ll do that gasket as well.

59$ US for an oil change?

Is that synthetic?

Is that a dealership?

Was thinking independent mechanics would be way cheaper in the states

Doesn’t seem too crazy, oil and filter is around $40 if you don’t get the cheap stuff. $20 for labor is reasonable. Still do my own obviously

We charge about $60 for Synthetic but we mainly service higher end Lexus and newer Toyotas to higher end clientele. Includes a 60 something point inspection and a car wash. Also still cheaper then the dealer and we won’t leave your drain plug out/filter loose/air filter box off like Iffy Lube.

I went to the local Valvoline drive-through quick oil change place last week and paid 102.00 (with a coupon) for an oil change using synthetic. It was 110.00 without the coupon. My a@@ still hurts from that.

When you are talking about a car you got for $1650, these kind of things are expected and acceptable.

I almost got that car, but decided 6 9-5s was enough. Glad it went to a good home. Make sure to get an SEM DIC, the aftermarket versions are total crap.

Let me know if you need any parts or some work done, I’ve apparently become the Saab specialist on the Olympic Peninsula.

Thank you for that, I have been looking at just that difference. I’ll look you up soon I imagine.

Where’s a good source from that?

Esaabparts and Eeuroparts are both good sources for OE stuff. The prices have dropped over $100 recently, so the DIC is just under $300.
