Kinja'd!!!

Exerting 530 pound feet per square inch of pressure. We can see the Harpy Eagle carting away a sloth. Sloths and monkeys make up the majority of its diet, however, it’s been known to go after deer and wolves. It’s the biggest of all birds of prey (females grow up to 22 pounds) they can carry their body weight out of a tree without stopping, and they’re just damn Nasty as a wildcat burnout.

The units actually work out (for sufficiently loose values of values of “work out”).

530 lb ft/in^2 = 76320 lb ft/ft^2 = 76320 lb per foot. So the left and right foot can each exert 76320 lb of squeeze. Or 38 tons. Which would be impressive....

A pound-foot is a unit of a moment. That’s a rotational force. Square inch is a measurement of area. Those two don’t “work out” and I seriously doubt that an animal’s claw is capable of exerting 76,000 pounds of force.

Hence the “for sufficiently loose values” and the “would be impressive”. It’s hard work trying to be humorous on the internet sometimes.

I’m a mechanical engineer, I know my torques from my pressures, thanks. The point of the joke was that it only “works out” if you equate foot the unit to foot he appendage

Oh, I get it now. Sorry- no insults intended.
