Some of the best production values in satire I’ve seen in a while (yes, it’s from 2015 but still applies). Bonus BMW content.

I don’t watch enough Key & Peele. My favorite is still the East West Bowl with all the crazy names.

Part of why I love Hulu...a lot of the recent shows I missed or just never watched are available there in there entirety. Plus every Seinfeld, etc.

Exactly... my life now with 2 kids and a job and a half, I can’t remember the last time I watched a TV show “live” on TV. Late night binges are the only way I see anything these days.

Bonus points: we cancelled our cable months ago, but still get it on our TV. We haven’t had a cable box in years, and I think the cable company thinks that we can’t get any channels without a box. Not only could we do that while we were paying for cable, but we still can now.

We did that exact same thing for a couple years, but then about a year ago they switched to where EVERYONE has to have a box, regardless of service level.

Honestly, between Hulu Plus (with no commercials), Amazon Prime, and Netflix, I don’t feel like we’re missing out. Every time I’m at someone’s house with cable, I get frustrated at the slowness and commercials. We cut the cable about 2 years ago, and the first 6 months were the hardest — especially if you’re used to just flipping on the TV and watching whatever. But if that’s your thing, there’s always Sling TV.

Everything above is doubly true with kids, since you can more easily monitor and tailor their programming, and then you don’t have them bugging you for every toy they see on TV ads :D

Totally with you on the parenting aspect. I’m not a big TV watcher to begin with, nor are my kids. It’s really nice to be able to put on a show that they like, and we like, at any time and with no ads, and a clear ending. Loving our Roku for this. I also have an Intel Stick on the TV for internet-based stuff we can’t get via Roku.

On the cable box thing... we were told you had to have a box, but we ignored them. Long after the digital conversion we still only used our TV for probably 3 years before we cancelled. Recently they had a promotion where you could get a mid-level TV package + internet for LESS than what we were paying for internet, for a year (then you could cancel with no penalty) so I called and said I wanted to do that. They said, OK we’ll just send you your cable box, that will be X dollars a month... and I’m like, NO. No cable box. They said I had to have it. Maybe that’s their policy now, but you don’t need it if your TV can tune digital channels, which many can.

Funny you mention sling; we got our Roku via a Sling promotion: it’s normally $20/mo so their promotion was, try Sling for 90 days and get a free Roku. We kinda wanted to try it anyway, so we spent $60 and got a Roku and 90 days of sling, which we hardly used as it turns out, so of course we cancelled. The Roku is $60 on Amazon anyway and we love it.
