Kinja'd!!!

I spent 9 days in Madinah before performing Umrah and Hajj. This was my wildest spotting.

You can’t see it, but the roof lining was sagging lower than an elderly woman’s breasts.

Driving in Saudi is chaos.

When ever your in a place where the reply to, ‘why are the roads so crazy’, ‘someone is going to die on these roads if they drive like this’, etc... is ‘inshallah’ (if allah wills it), you know to say away from their roads.

Sadly, this looks like a lot of cars in the Kingdom. All most people see are supercar videos, but average cars are beat the hell there due to the positively insane driving, harsh sun, low humidity, and sandstorms. This one is particularly extreme, I must admit, but usually cars that are over about 5 years old will have some dents and cars 10-15 will not have a single straight panel remaining.

I’d say 99.9% of the cars in Saudi are used cars that cost less than $10k.

Congratulations on completing your Hajj. I know how big of a deal that is in Saudi, Jordanian, and Iraqi society. I wish that I could low key your with a Muslim family I knew a few years back in Fallujah.

-they wanted to hire a buddy and I to guard them on their trip. (We were both very olive complected Hispanic Marines, the nice LN’s treated us like family and for the longest time thought we were wayward Muslims who lost our culture somewhere)

lolol

This was right about a year after the first Iraqi election, so things were dicey and a lot of Saudis and Syrians were upset about the results.

Is this a fact or observation? It was definitely an unusual environment when it came to cars.

I had visited the two holy cities, Madinah and Makkah and there were very few cars looking newer than 2010. I’d see a few Hyundai Sonatas or more rarely a Porsche Cayenne. Majority of cars were Japanese, Corollas being most frequent. I’m also positive majority of the world supply of Toyota Cressidas (last gen) is also in Saudi.

As of 2008, I would have guessed it was the home to the largest fleet of B-bodies on earth outside of law enforcement. There were also a ton of Camrys of every vintage. They definitely drive a lot of Toyotas...

Mind you, I was primarily in Riyadh.
