If I could afford a new car, I'd get a late-model Camry V6 with the 2GR

and add the Lotus supercharger from the Evora

maybe a manual swap, too (the Evora’s transmission)

And you could probably do it to any 2GR Toyota (Highlander, Sienna, Rav4, RX350, etc)

Toyota should offer the 2GR-FZE on their own cars. A Sienna XRS, Camry XRS, ES-F, RX-F, Rav4 XRS All-Trac, Highlander XRS hell yeah!

The Evora is probably the reason Toyota stopped offering the Solara (and V6 manual in general)

Do it to an AWD V6 previous gen RAV4. One of those would be hilariously quick with the supercharger.

Also, Toyota sold a supercharged 2GR motor from the factory in one of their own cars, the TRD Aurion in Australia.

However, I really, really don’t think the Solara’s death had anything to do with the Evora, they were competing in very different classes. Nobody was cross-shopping Solaras with Evoras.

Here’s what was being cross-shopped the most, I’d guess:

Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Chrysler Sebring/Dodge Stratus (both the Eclipse-based Coupe and the actually Chrysler Convertible)

Nissan Altima Coupe

Honda Accord Coupe (the only one actually remaining of the midsize FWD coupe class)

And, my guess as to what happened was, everyone who wanted that class consolidated on the Accord. As far as the V6 manual going away, my guess is that everyone who wanted a V6 manual went to the Accord, they didn’t want a mid-late 2000s Toyota anyway. The Evora would actually have been a reason to keep the V6 manual in production, to reduce production costs for Lotus (or profit more off of their purchases).

Oh, and the last model year for the Solara was, IIRC, 2006.

The Evora was first shown in July 2008, and sales started in summer 2009.

It would be neat but there are two big obstacles:

1) tuning. Only solution is standalone

2) weak transmission

But I guess you could avoid that with a standalone and a manual transmission

Very weak transmission, unfortunately.

I would want to get one with the 4 cylinder and a manaul, beef up the internals, and strap a turbo to it.

The 2az is a 4cylinder with a reallt good amount of potential.

IIRC, there is technically a realistic way around that, although it’s both expensive and hasn’t been done before in this form.
