So I am back to using my favorite macbook of all time. My 2008 Macbook Pro 15". This was the cream of the crop back in the day and I upgraded it to a 500GB SSD and 4GB RAM and a 2.5 Core 2 Duo and 512mb Graphics . This thing is still fast and decent by todays standards. I decided to move back into this laptop and sell my retina macbook pro. I just have a thing for vintage macs.

I would not run a Mac that can’t run the current version of OS X, on any kind of network that can access the internet, unless it’s running a third-party OS that’s currently supported.

Well this OS still gets security updates. This just won’t run sierra at the moment. That can be fixed with some tweaks but I don’t plan to be back in this long term. I am looking to use this for a little while but probably will be buying something else with the money from the retina. I just am looking to cash out on the retina and buy something a little cheaper.

Oh man those things are beasts. I absolutely loved the keyboard compared to the next generation and certainly better than their new crap.

Yeah I love this keyboard, But to be fair I love the keyboard on the chiclet key generation as well. But this one just has some old school flair that feels good

I wasn’t a great fan of my 06. I loved the absolute shit out of my 11 and just recently had to give it up. It developed some fault in the wifi I couldn’t solve by replacing the wifi module and cable. I still have no complaints about my 17, but I think the 11 was the pinnacle of both form and function. It served me well as a daily throughout high school and college and I was not exactly nice to it.

Yeah they are pretty tough, I put the one I went to college with through a lot. And that was just a white macbook. The 2011 15" were good but the majority of them developed a graphics card issue at some point in their life. I remember when I worked for apple service I was replacing logic boards for them all the time because of the graphics issues

Ah, yes. Mine required two. It was an enormous pain in the ass but at least they were under warranty. However, it was the only fault that wasn’t directly attributable to me spilling water into it (new trackpad and keyboard), dropping it (several large dents and the case never quite fit correctly after) or general wear and tear from the life it lived (replacement hinges and battery after five or so years).

Back when Apple gave a shit. The new one is a joke.

(I have a 2014 MBP Retina. It’s such a fucking lemon.)

I loved my 2007 MacBook Pro 17", was very sad to have to give it back to the company when they were sold and let everyone go. I have had a 2012 MacBook Pro Retina since then and it is still the bees knees. I loaded it up with the SSD and the 16GB RAM. Still runs everything nice and fast. I certainly run these machines, and they do all the design work I require. I don’t see a need to upgrade anytime soon. As long as all my Adobe software works, I am good.

I have that exact one also. I loved it so much I went to the trouble of replacing the logic board and fans after the cat dumped water on it.

Damnnnnnn that trackpad tho. I’ve barely put my 2015 13" MBP Retina through the ringer so it will be sticking around for a while but I definitely want that touch bar once it’s more mature and devs use it more.

They do keep updating the touchbar though, a month ago they added finger print ID to unlock it. The trackpad is nice but it took me weeks to not rest the bottom of my hand on it.
