Australian national airline Qantas is holding a competition to name its new fleet of 787s. The theme is “Australian icons”. There doesn’t seem to be a requirement that only Australians can enter.

There’s SO much potential here, but I’m running with”The Last of the V8 Interceptors”.

I’m also tempted by “Spirit of SummerNats”: could make for an awesome piece of nose art.

“That’s not a knife” is a good one; worthy of Iain M Banks . You’d really want to paint it on the side of one of their shiny new F35s rather than a 787 though.
By all accounts Brocky, though a genius driver, was a complete A-hole in regular life. If I was Quantas I think I’d rather be running with Sir Jack Brabham. Actually that one’s probably even a serious possibility, now I thnk about it. Three times world champion and the only person ever to win a championship as both driver and constructor; he’s earned it.

Apparently you should be working at Qantas: about half of those are the examples they came up with themselves:

I did change three of them as it wanted names that weren’t trade marked or licenced.
There also had to be eight suggested names. I think I had Sydney Harbour Bridge, etc... land marks and historic regions.

I must have lucked out then - it didn’t reject any of mine. But I went with dead people and phrases. I did wonder how they were going to get away with Vegemite etc.
