I like- nay, love- the ‘05-’09 Mustang GT, at least in stock, non Bro-modded form. It was the hot new thing when I was a little boy, and I’ve always wanted one. Everytime I see one, I hear the soundtrack from Burnout 3 begin to play in my head. If I were ever to get one, I’d actually want to leave it stock.

Somewhat lackluster engines aside, this is my favorite generation of Mustang aesthetic wise by a large margin. I had a book when I was little of hot new cars in 2005, and the red Mustang GT and the F430 Spyder were always my two favorites.

I think I had the same one. Was it a schoolastic book with a purple background?

My favorite gen is the Foxbody, but I love these.

I like pretty much any mustang with no fake scoops

The Bullit edition was fantastic. GT, awesome wheels, no spoiler, fantastic color. Yes yes yes. Build quality is sadly atrocious on these.

That’s the exact book! I think there’s a Ford GT on the cover.

I had it! Sadly long gone. Yes, there’s a GT on the cover. I liked the GT, Mustang, and Viper the best. Those were my Lamborghini Countach, or Ferrari Testarossa growing up.

Pops had a manual ‘08 GT for about 6 years. It was fun car but Jake’s right, the fit and finish starts to show after about 5 years. Before we sold it, the doors were starting to rattle and the leather inserts on the door panels were peeling off (we glued it back on and it looked factory again).

I recommend getting one without the stupid scoops, but the wing is cool. If we could do it again, then we’d swap the GT wing for the ducktail from the V6.

Found it!

I’m not likely to get one anytime soon. Fit and finish doesn’t bother me much (Have you SEEN what I drive?)

That book is still around here somewhere... I’m gonna have to find it now.

These get a big MEH from me. But i prefer the New Edge models (particularly the Bullitt) so take from that what you will

Lack of taste! I kid. I liked those too when I was younger, but the older I get, the less they do for me.

Like I said, my copy’s long gone now. I found that on Amazon.

I loved that book.

Here’s a real confession. I don’t like stock muscle cars. Unless they’re like a brand new one.

I normally like them lightly modified, like the Chevelle or the Camaro where they aren’t hacked up, just hot rodded a bit. But these look best stock to me.

Better? Yes. But that’s irrelevant. This is what was new when I was a kid. It’s a nostalgia thing (Seriously, I’m an extremely nostalgic person)

I’m like that too, but for a time I didn’t even live through . . . I’m probably younger than you, but I prefer classic cars over almost anything modern.

You didn’t mention galvanic corrosion, so I assume his was one of the few that still had all its paint on the hood?

Have a hard time believing that. I’m 17. I also prefer classics. You could put a 6 cylinder ‘67 Camaro next to a new ZL1. I’ll walk right past the ZL1 for the ‘67. I’m nostalgiac for: the 1950s, the 1970s, the 1990s, the early-mid 2000s, and I was alive for only one of them.

Yep, I am younger than you, but only by just over a year. And I’m not even the youngest on Oppo.

Somewhat irrelevant, but I have a weird thing for old 6-cylinder Camaros, to the point where I would chose a stock six over a restomodded/restored one.

I can see why you like it, this gen gave the Mustang its identity back again, even if it couldn’t go around corners.

I always thought Mustangs were platforms for modification though, so it’s easy to do a lot with them without coming off as a ‘bro’. For example, the Roush version of this car fixed its handling problems and had period-correct muscle car style mods.
