Kinja'd!!!

50% off everything Mother’s day sale at a local thrift store, so I crawled out of bed after just 2.5 hours of sleep to see what they had. After spending a week sorting through piles of crap bought at the Goodwill Outlet over the last year, I have vowed to be more discriminating in my thrift store purchases and will only acquire things I can either use immediately or on which I can get a large ROI. Thankfully today’s acquisitions don’t take up much space.

Today’s finds include:

$2 - 2 8GB and 1 32GB Class 10 SD card, a couple of card holders and a few small USB thumb drives. One of the drives was listed as 128MB, and I mistakenly read it as 128GB. 128 megabytes? What the hell am I supposed to do with that? I could probably use it to bring a few pics to the office to personalize whatever computer I’m using.

$2.50 - USB rechargeable LED flashlight/phone charger. It seemed like something good to have in the briefcase, but after digging through all of the parts I discovered it doesn’t have the actual USB cable, just the light and a ton of adapters. Oops. I’ll either find or make the necessary cable.

$6 Panasonic HDMI/DTS soundbar

$0.59 - Garmin Nuvi 50LM GPS. Part of the bracket is missing, but I’ve got a spare. My last one wasn’t an LM and the maps were stuck at 2011 (and I wasn’t going to give Garmin $50 or whatever for an update), so this one will be a little more usable.

$5 - Craftsman polisher/buffer. Needs a new pad or three. Maybe this will be the tool to get me off my lazy ass and actually get around to polishing and waxing the car. I’ve been meaning to do it for, well, forever... Now I just need to find a few extension cords.

$0.89/lb - a cool nighttime street scene painting (framing by Famous-Barr, and from the looks of the label it looks like it’s from the ‘50s or ‘60s) and a couple of Hot Wheels and old Matchbox cars. Probably less than $1.50 invested.

$0.15 - some old magazines, including a couple of Radio Control model magazines from 1957 and 1959. The prices of the models, tools and parts were amazing. I could use a small hand plane for a few projects around the house, and I would have gladly paid the full $0.80 asking price instead of the discounted $0.29 sale price.

$0.29/lb - cool ‘60s-vintage ashtray featuring the old Busch Stadium and the Gateway Arch. Small item, so price was probably less than a quarter. Oh, and I found a quarter in the bin next to it...
