My camper shell is "leaking"

Well, not really leaking, more so accumulating water on the inside. The left and right carpet shelves near the back will get wet when it rains but the rest will stay dry. I’ve sealed all the windows real good with silicone and I can’t seem to find how the water is getting in. Any ideas? Might be that the hatch has a little hole where the corner hits the bed, but the hole is undercut and not near the carpet. Could also be the holes from the wood roof rack the PO installed. Might take it off but it is perfect for my canoe.

Any other ideas?

I think these 2-inch clamps might be only $1.99 in the actual Harbor Freight store. I use them for all kinds of things and your solution is ideal. You might also look for some neoprene of some robust weather stripping or similar to make a layer between the cap and the edge of the bed.

If you want to keep the rack remove the bolts, fill the holes with silicone and reinstall the bolts with fender washers outside and inside with extra silicone between the washers and the shell

Best (educated?) guess is that water is running down the outside of your camper shell & when it gets to the horizontal line between the shell and your bed top rail, some of the water is hugging along the surface of the shell & due to surface tension? some of the water is getting under the shell.

Solution? Obviously need to find a way to create a better seal. I’d guess your shell has a gasket to prevent this which probably needs to be replaced or silicone caulk. Really creative I know seeing as those were the other two suggestions already :-)

That’s what I’m thinning too. The seals are almost 20 years old. I’m in NC though and the closest Snugtop dealer is in Mississippi. They’re mainly a west coast brand. Going to have to be creative here.

I might do that but get new wood and finish it better. The current one is a little ratty.

My Dad’s topper on his old Nissan used to use these tapered (maybe silicon) strips that were stuck to the rails of the box. They curved around the corners too. They worked really well, but that’s the only time I’ve seen the seals attached to the truck vs the topper.

I bet there are generic gaskets that you can find locally that can work, I’d check with RV dealers or exterior door weather stripping from a hardware store.
