When to change a gasket?

I found an oil leak (shocking) and digging around I found what I think is another. I know the original owner never changed the pump. while I have the engine out, should I change the gasket or leave it be? I can’t see any drips, but I’m afraid its is seeping out.

Any thoughts?

How much extra time/expense does it cost you now compared with needing to take the engine out again if it’s bad?

1/2hour to replace* *pending nothing goes wrong.

vs @2 hours to remove, swap and then 2 hours to put back in.

mostly afraid of fucking something up.

All you have to do is pull off those mount brackets to get the cover off? Reseal it.

If you do it now, then you know it’s done, and won’t have to worry about it later.

Ummm... you have the engine out of the car but are debating on changing a gasket?

This is jalop/oppo summed up in one post.

Tough, but if it is leaking change it. If you removed it and the gasket was fine, get a new gasket! Always replace the gasket, it is cheap insurance.
