By the time it’s ready for the road the true cost will be in the tens of thousands

Rust might have eaten too much of it by now.

Man that’s rough though.

I’m going to call a CP on this when when you can pick up a solid example for $5k. I’m not one to shy away from a project but it’ll unfortunately cost waaaay more than 5 grand to get that one presentable not to mention how much work

Wow that’s clean. The last time I saw one for sale it was closer to 15,000 but it was BRG.

I see a driver pop up on Craigslist in Portland at least for between like 5,000 and 10,000 every so often. I just looked on Hemmings and prices were a lot higher there but they were more like collector level than driver level

That’s what is so great about Portland though, no road salt means pretty much everything is clean

Damn, now I feel really bad for not picking up the $1200 one I found last year that was damn close to running and pretty solid.

This looks like a 68-72 B GT. The color especially caught my eye since I have a 74 MG B GT that is also factory original purple

This particular example however almost looks as bad as David’s Willys. It’s going to need all new floor, rockers, left front wing, probably carbs, engine, transmission and rear end rebuild + go through gas, cooling, brakes and electrical systems + new interior and paint. I’m sure it Could be saved after probably easily 1000 hrs. of work & easily another $5K

Which is exactly the issue as others pointed out, you can buy a sorted one for that price

That would be a great parts car to do a Chrome bumper conversion.

It would have to be bought by some one who wants a project more than they want the car.

Eh, they used a little this winter in the really steep spots because it was such a bad winter. It was really an emergency option to keep some steep, heavily traveled areas moving. Without heavy snow deicing chemical is actually more effective at preventing and last winter was a big anomaly

Exactly, it was an anomaly. Unfortunately though most people I’ve talked to don’t seem to understand that, and it seems like there has been some pressure on the state to start using more salt after what happened last season.

Maybe not the worst idea to keep some on hand to stop like Burnside and streets like that from turning into an absolute nightmare but there’s no good reason at all to widely use in in Portland.

Nah, all the parts are there, it’s pre federal bumpers, and it’s a rarer model. MGBs are pretty famously cheap to restore on account of being able to buy two or three more for the same price or less for parts. If you know what you’re doing, you can build one for practically nothing.

Eh I guess, but why deal with it when you don’t have to? The long-gone craigslist ad I linked was for the exact same car(MGB GT, good bumpers, color was the only difference) listed at $5,000. Any project car will rack up more than you expect, even a “cheap” one and time is worth something too.

Because some people just like doing it, but I’m not exaggerating when I say you can build a good one of these for practically nothing (like less than a grand). They’re probably the cheapest project cars around.
