Until a few days ago I was carrying a Hazard 4 Second Front, but I never used the rotating feature so it wasn’t an ideal fit. It was also significantly larger and heavier than I really needed for every day carry. So I bought this.

Kinja'd!!!

That’s a Maxpedition Malaga Gearslinger, and it is awesome. It’s about half the size that my Second Front was in terms of volume, but it’s got much more usable space for me. I can fit a shirt and a pair of pants in the main compartment (I’m about 6 foot and 300lbs, so they’re a big shirt and pants) if I need to, and all the regular stuff I’ve got on me fits with room to spare.

I also added a Maxpedition Monkey combat admin pouch to the front, which looks like it was made to go on there. I like that pouch a lot, since the Malaga doesn’t have a great admin pocket that you can open all the way without detaching the compression straps. It holds a few pens, a backup pocket knife, backup flashlight, notebook, and other odds and ends.

I’ve also got my Leatherman Surge in a sheath on the side, plus a Bushnell Tracker flashlight that I got for $15 from the Walmart clearance section.

Overall I’m very happy with it. It feels like it’s built to last forever, I’ve got plenty of room to add on to it, and its light and comfortable for every day use.

Next up is a Maxpedition Falcon III for more of a bug out bag. So what are you guys carrying?

Phone in one front pocket. Wallet in the other. Keys in the pocket watch pocket. I like to travel light.

I tried to have a front pocket wallet, but I just can’t get used to it. Plus if I’ve got a phone in one pocket and a wallet in the other, where do I put my keys?

I’ve always done front pocket. I can’t stand sitting on things. Keys go in my pocket watch pocket (I wear jeans almost everyday). I don’t carry a lot of keys either.

Interesting, I usually use the pocket watch pocket for a knife. I just got a new bifold from Recycled Firefighter that’s super slim, I don’t even feel it when I’m sitting on it. They do front pocket wallets too, well worth checking out next time you find yourself in the wallet market.

Pretty much the same thing as you. Gym bag has a bunch of stuff but my regular carry is just keys, phone, wallet.

I actually could use a new wallet. My tri-fold is starting to come apart.

Mine feels like it’ll last forever. Made in America, highly recommended.

Right now I just have my big old L. L. Bean backpack from college. It’s 10 years old but still carries stuff just fine. I basically have a mobile engineering office in there. Laptop, mouse, charger, calipers, notebooks, etc. Oh and lunch.

My laptop is a 15.6" Sony Vaio S with and SSD that only weighs like 4 lbs but can run SolidWorks like a champ. Perfect for carrying everywhere.

More recently I also put together a little kit with a battery, USB cables, wall and car chargers, multi-tool, flashlight, safety glasses, flash drive. Real compact, keep it in my backpack. Has been incredibly useful. I need to get some usb lightning adapters so I can charge friends‘ iphones if need be.

I’ve been thinking of finding a more versatile pack for when I go climbing or riding (motorcycle). Tried to use my Kriega R20 but it’s just not big enough and a little too specialized for wearing while riding to use every day.

I’m still kinda on the fence about Maxpedition. I use a Maxpedition Balthazar Large in olive drab as my EDC when I’m in the field like the stock photo below. It’s pretty good, but one of the outer loops tore off pretty easily. I’m always having radios, cell phones, Irwin clamps and my safety glasses pouches on the loops so that kinda sucked but the material is durable and it has otherwise held up to a lot of abuse and being constantly overloaded/stuffed shut. I found some photos of it on my kart. Usually it looks like it’s barfing like the top pic but sometimes it’s tidy like the lower one. I can bore you with the a list of the contents if you’d like.

Here’s a crop from a picture of my office where it was hiding in the corner.

Thats surprising about the loop tearing, of the bags I’ve had with MOLLE loops the Maxpedition feels by far the strongest. Is the material on yours still super stiff? Mine almost feels like its made of plastic because of the coating they put on it, I’m told it softens up a little but not much.

I’d say that’s about a perfect description of the material. I’ve been using this one for about 5 years now and it is a little less more flexible, but still pretty stuff. It reminds me a lot of Carhartt and Wolverine duck cloth work pants and jackets that stay stiff wash after wash. I like that, because it doesn’t collapse when you open it like a cheaper canvas bag.

That’s accurate on the Carhartt duck. I’ve got a duck jacket, I’ve washed it a few times and its still like cardboard, albeit not as stiff as this damn bag.

I’m late to this, but I’m looking for an EDC bag. Any recommendations on makers (other than above)

I have a Victorinox Altmont now that is older and shabby

I actually just switched to a Direct Action Dragon Egg backpack and it’s AWESOME. Best bag I’ve ever had. I don’t know if they’ve got sling bags if that’s what you’re looking for though.

I’ll look into it! I try to avoid the tactical stuff, I can’t carry in Canada so don’t see the point. I really like the Cycop Daysling right now

I do have a separate “bug out bag” (I hate that term) that I am looking for a more tactical bag for, so the Dragon Egg looks like a good contender for that, but I kinda like Hazard4's stuff more

I’m in a similar spot, so I actually got the Dragon Egg in ‘urban gray’ to downplay its tacticool-ness. Black or camo look like you’re trying to play soldier, gray it’s just a nice looking bag.

Hazard 4 stuff is tremendous quality, no complaints.
