It almost looks stained back there. The even fading everywhere else is improbable...

It did, mounted on a plastic bracket, but the front end had been somewhat recently repainted.
The car kind of looks like the worlds worst attempt at a custom two tone fade.

Nope. 4M9 and 4Q2 were some of the worst colors ever invented for pigment loss. If I popped an emblem off of the trunk and cleaned the adhesive residue up, there would be a gold shadow of the nameplate in whats now silver paint.

Ahh, I see. This was gold.
Still doesn’t look that bad, but that would SUCK if you had to do any body work.
