Kinja'd!!!

Still amazed it didn’t ruin the rim. The tough V rated tire sidewall must have saved the wheel.

This picture makes me feel something, but I don’t know what. Should I be disappointed or impressed?

New run flats? or a light weight tire design for hybrids?

I think you’re right. I doubt you can patch that effectively.

I’d say impressed. It was on a rental car and you know how those get treated.

Maybe we’re onto something, building all tires with super strength sidewalls.

I can’t believe it didn’t break the bead.

Yes, rental car company to our body shop and service department. It did a little other damage to car when the tire shredded. Under $800 total I think our estimator said.

Been around cars since 70s and its usually only the V, W or Y rates tires that the bead can survive like this. Have seen it a few times before but only one other time did the wheel escape any damage. Usually a rock or curb gouges the outer edge or face at some point but not this time.

Ask any body who works at a tire shop about the weird stuff you see. Had a truck tire about 10 years ago that had a rail road spike puncture and the spike was flipping around inside. Nearly the same thing happened last year with a set of needle nose pliers. The pliers entered the tire in center of the tread and somehow only left a 1/2"-3/4" slit in the carcass. It was 3" across the handles. We never could figure out with them even splayed open how they didn’t make a bigger entry hole.

I think this might be the correct transmission. He’s going to get me some better photos of the front and of the tag.

Was the WC in the S10 only behind the 4.3?

I think it could be behind either 6 cylinder but if I recall only a WC T5 in 93. If you look at that other link I sent you I’m pretty sure it said that.
