We explored cars that sell, not just in single figures, but in single numbers last night. So let’s find a few more unicorns.

This time we’re off to Sweden. Why this somewhat obscure place? Because I can find the figures and have some vague hope of understanding the website , that’s why.

So here goes.

VW Scirocco

Kinja'd!!!

Opel Combo (car spec). Yes, it’s really a Fiat Doblo

Kinja'd!!!

Merc M

Kinja'd!!!

Jaaag XJ

Kinja'd!!!

Hyundai ix35 (which is probably the fuel cell model)

Kinja'd!!!

Bentley Mulsanne

Kinja'd!!!

In other news, the Swedes bought five Smart Fortwos. They also bought five Morgans, five GTRs and five Cadillac SRXs. Make of that what you will.

They also bought, or rather made, eight “amatörbygge” or homebuilds.

What they really, really like though is the Volvo V90 and S90 and by adding these together Volvo can say that they sell the best selling car in their home market.

I expect the singular sales of the Merc and the ix35 to be due to the fact that they were renamed to the GLE and Tucson respectively.

I wonder how much that Bentley cost. I’ve heard normal cars and be over 6 figures in Sweden do to the way they tax cars there.

Not necessarily. Hyundai still use the ix35 as a base for their fuel cell car, they didn’t update to the Tucson, and I’m guessing that’s what it is.

You’re right about the Merc though, there were 212 sold, which is more than the Opel Insignia and Nissan Juke (yes, really!).

I did look, but I could find only a dealer website and they don’t mention anything so vulgar as price.

No, cars aren’t that dear in Sweden by European standards. A Golf starts from 200,000 kr including taxes (prices always include tax in this part of the world) but excluding delivery and related charges. I think they’re dearer in Norway and Denmark.

I’m surprised the MX5 is so high!

There’s almost no demand for two seat sports cars in many countries and to add to that Fiat have almost no presence in Sweden.
