Should I pull a trigger?

Spoke to Carmax because I noticed a car I really want:

https://www.carmax.com/car-beta/14429553

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

It’s an ML400 with a TTV6 with “329" BHP, but it also has the auto cruise control + on&offroad package (low range, air suspension, skid plate) + parking package (parallel + perpendicular parking).

Thinking about giving my E wagon (2014, 20k miles) to my parents and buying this car. Am I insane?

I prefer the wagon, but if you want the thing, get the thing! I’m sure your rents will love the E class.

I gotta be honest, I don’t see the point of getting an ML. Do they do anything great ? $45k is a lot of coin to just get some transportation that parks itself.

It’s safe, the TTV6 is pretty fast, and it offroads pretty well.

I have a better idea. Give me the wagon instead of your parents! They can have my R500 as a consolation prize.

If you like it, go for it. They’re pretty solid. Lots of people love them, even just the 350's.

Victor ... you’re going to go off road with an ML?

I feel like everything German for that much is safe/quick.

You must have great parents that don’t need a CUV/SUV for “ease of entry” for them to drive an E wagon.

If they decline your generous offer, however, please note that your long lost uncle* would gladly take you up on it.

*me...of course

That’s a super rare rig - looks to have all options + Designo. Never seen one so loaded.

212 wagon is pretty nice to just give away, I’ll give you $100 for it :)

IDK, if you’re looking for something that you can take off road and has leather seats and air suspension, German probably isn’t the way to go.

You’re better off with something that was designed with that in mind. If the SL500's air suspension nightmares are anything to go by, I’d take the LR4 any day of the week.

Have you driven one? The steering feel is non-existent. If you jumped in a Camry afterwards it would seem like sports car driving dynamics. Coupled with their throttle-by-wire programming, it’s just a complete mess.

My E wagon already has air suspension too. So I’m doubly f**ked already on that. Plus, surprisingly the ML isn’t too common in my neighborhood; as the RR is de rigueur here.

Also, I sort of want my car to be safe too...and fast...the LR4 hits neither criteria.

That’s okay. The original intention is for the wife, and buy a new car for my parents (GLC or an E class or something), but the GLCs are so hard to come by right now; and my wife likes smaller cars.

Still torn on whether or not to pull the trigger on it.

But yeah, I would offroad the ML. Because, why not? It’s going to be driven for 5-6 years and worth less than a new Sentra at that point. Why not have fun with it in the meantime?

Also, needs to carry bikes, skis, baby, mulch, etc.

I basically need to do home depot runs like i do currently in my E wagon.

Man, I really wish they still made R classes....this whole thing is because we need a pseudo minivan.

It’s got a 375 BHP V8, multiple airbags per passenger and a Good IIHS safety rating. What more do you want from an SUV that you can actually take off road?

I checked with my Mercedes guy to see if I can order a GLE with On&Offroad package anymore. The new one isn’t certified with EPA, so no.

Well then it’s a perfect trade! Have you considered a GL450? It’s basically the same underneath as an R-class was, body and interior were the most obvious differences.

Not surprising. I wonder if you spent some time searching all inventory in the US (and even Canuckistan) if there are any so loaded. I wouldn’t be shocked if this was the heaviest optioned example. If you like it, go for it - you might not find another, ever.
