Saw this news report just before heading to work today. What I dont understand is how can a news channel push such a badly researched article on to the air. I can clearly see the BMW’s in the video are all different years ranging from an early X5 to a newer M235i. and that Z4 clearly is a cabin fire compared to the 330i with the engine compartment fire.

Feels like ABC is trying to make it a big deal and see if it sticks after the VW case.

Kinja'd!!!

If you are going to try to make a fuss about cars catching fire while parked at least pick a car which actually had a habit of catching fire while parked. (First gen Minis had an issue with their electric power steering pumps where the relay inside the pump would fail causing the pump to stay on even when the car is turned off. Since the fan is off and their is no air flow the pump would then overheat and set the fluid on fire).

An older X5 burst into flames in the house across the street from mine a few years ago and burned a good portion of the house down.

Not sure. They gave an interview to the local news when it first happened saying they’d be contacting BMW, but I didn’t hear anything after that.

More than one story. lol It seems they try very hard to drum up a controversy where there’s none there. I mean, I’m obvs not even a fan of Trump but I’m not going to crucify him for letting the kid ride shotgun in a carseat.

Lol I was thinking Ford Fusion.. Im not a big fan either(brown guy in red state problems).I still believe every kid needs to ride shotgun, I learnt to drive watching my dad, he would occasionally tell me to change gears, and I loved it

I think we all grew up riding in the front seat! :) For me it was like from 7 years old and onward. I think it was part of what helped me learn how to drive Manual too. At least the cars of today have nifty gyros and weight sensors that won’t deploy airbags if a kid is in the seat.

I mean... cars can burst into flames anytime. usually related to a nylon fuel line cracking, or wiring issue... It’s not a common thing, but I don’t think it’s exclusive to BMW either. The ‘parked for 3-4 days’ one raises eyebrows for sure.
