Update: I’m not bringing this back to the top of the page, so probably no one reads this update, but I rented and paid for a “Ford Mustang Coupe or Similar”. I will report back on what I end up with. Original: I’m flying to ABQ then driving to Santa Fe for a 5-day weekend next week. Originally I was planning to rent a Wrangler, but it’s going to be too cold to take the top off. I’m hoping Mustang Coupe or Similar means Mustang/Camaro/Challenger but I’m kind of afraid I’d end up with something like a Veloster. I’d like to stick with Avis if possible and since I’m in vacation I don’t really feel driving the typical Altusionibu.

I haven’t, but you could call that location (not corporate) to see what they usually have, and request something specific - which won’t guarantee you anything, but it should help.

I rented a Mustang or similar through Budget (partner of Avis). When I got there, they were out of Mustang’s and was told that the only other car in the class was the convertible New Beetle.
I had two large pieces of luggage, and was not going to rent a New Beetle vert (side note, I own, and for years DD’ed a 2000 New Beetle, so the issue wasn’t OMG NO NOT A NEW BEETLE). So I put my foot down and was like... uh. NO.
Ended up getting a pretty decently discounted rate on a Mustang GT out of the deal.

I recently rented a Mustang Coupe or similar from Budget and received a Mustang Coupe with an Ecoboost. You should be fine.

Where in Santa Fe will you be? If you haven’t been to Taos, I highly recommend a jaunt up there. Santa Fe and Taos are two fantastic places to visit.

I did that exact thing, rented a mustang or similar for a one day drive with a friend from Roswell to San Antonio. Got there and they didn’t have the mustang there, but they were having it driven from another location.
I wanted to leave the minute I go to there, but since it was still being driven there I had to wait. They offered me a Honda CR-V or something but i wanted something that was a little better on gas and wouldn’t suck to drive for 16 hours straight.

I just booked a rental of a Mustang (or similar) through Budget. I’ll report my findings after my vaca to Denver in the September. It was only $50 more (total) than a Fiesta, so I’ll take my chances.

I rented one from Budget during a trip to Miami - you can read about it here ! It was a bright-yellow Ecoboost Premium. Fun car to drive around and very comfortable.

Yeah that’s kinda where I’m at - for 5 days it’s like $250 vs. 200. I’ll take a chance at a more interesting car for that.

I rented “mustang or similar” twice from Budget. Both times at the St. Louis Airport. The first time, they accidentally gave away my car so they upgraded me to an EB premium Vert. It was such a nice car, someone smashed my window my last night in St. Louis >:|
The second time I got a bright orange EB premium fastback. The car was ready to go as soon as I pulled in. I cut to the front of the line (I’m an Avis member, you should sign up, it’s free) and was gone in 60 seconds.
The EB is plenty quick for the street and if you hold the T/C switch for 10 seconds, the traction and stability control completely turn off.
10/10, will definitely go this route a third time.
