Got a link? I let my TT subscription expire after it got spun off from Motor Trend. The quality of writing seemed to fall off significantly.

“Basically all I’ve done is oil changes,” Sheppard says. “The only mechanical issue I’ve had with my truck was at 776,000 when the reverse went out. I continued to use it, and thought if I ever got in a bind, I could just push it back.”

Only 776,000 miles? What a piece of crap!

How often does Toyota do this? I know this isn’t the first one.

A complete teardown and inspection of a million-mile truck sure makes for good publicity. IMO, it’s way better (and more convincing) publicity than Chevy’s insistence that they still make the “most dependable, longest lasting trucks”, or Ford’s pride in having the best-selling truck.

I wish this truck had the 4.6 or 5.7 since it’s the newer architecture but amazed at everything else. I could have told you from here that a UZ engine would still be good.

Its too bad they didn’t publish the actual dyno results. Would have been interesting to see.

TMMTX gave out several Tundra to Texas rancher when they rolled out of San Antonio. They instructed the owners to use them like heavy duty trucks for over 100,000 miles. Once done, they were returned to the plant and torn down to the last washer for R&D. Classic Toyota move. When I was a tech for Lexus, reps would fly from Japan to see any odd issue and halt production on the spot if they had to. Then after, they’d have the vehicle bought back and shipped back to Japan. Toyota doesn’t play around when it came to quality, especially at Lexus.

To the elite enthusiasts though....beige/boring

I’ll tell you my 1UZ is probably still up there in power after a few hundred thousand miles. I think age has been harder on my car than miles anyways.

Maybe that’s the one I’m remembering. It’s a great opportunity for Toyota to do some advertising, and get some real world testing out of it, too. Too bad they didn’t do it up in the rust belt lol.

That whole thing reads a lot like a press release...

Yeah, I was hoping for more in depth specs and analysis.

So the timing set lasted this whole time as well? I find that difficult to believe.

Dyno numbers and data would be nice. This just reads like a 2am engineering lab report with no analysis and data.

So talking to a Toyota engineer the one thing he said that concerns him about this whole thing is that knowing this kind of mileage and wear is WELL beyond expectation they might be tempted to “value engineer” a little heavier to reduce costs. i.e. lets not build for a million miles, lets build for 500,000 miles on things like seat fabrics and such.
