The Maryland State Police runs decent amount of it’s cars for 250,000-360,000 miles before auctioning them off.

Example:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Kinja'd!!!

3 more with 250,000+ miles:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

That’s kinda crazy. Especially considering that most departments rotate cars at like 5 years or 130,000 miles. Which is wasteful as fuck.

That’s a LOT of miles for such a tiny state.

wow - and hard miles too. A testament to that Crown Vic, and their State Patrol mechanics.

You are wrong, friend. Even though Maryland looks tiny on a map, it’s sneakily wide and roads don’t go directly to your destination. For example, because of the bay, from Baltimore to the eastern shore adds an extra hour or more because there’s only one major crossing.

Coupled with the distance between Annapolis and the far west edge of the state, I can see how some transit or non-patrol cars could easily hit 350k in 10 years.

Edit: just checked it, from Oakland (on the west) to Ocean City, it’s 320 miles and 5.5 hours...

They’re still pretty low on the list of miles of roads per state:

Could it have to do with the fact that they didn’t have a replacement for the Crown Vic and they were running these until they found one?

300,000 miles and 3,000,000 hours with the engine idling.

Possibly, they seem to be holding onto their Crown Vics pretty tight.

And they still look pretty good.

I’d like to see them do that with the newer ones.

Other than their durability, the Vic is a totally uninspiring car. I’d yawn when I see one, but I fall asleep too quickly.

They’re super fun to drive and flick around. They also sound amazing.
