A 2012 C63 AMG is a bad idea right? There’s a reason they’re already sub 40k and all the promises of better handling and reliability are as empty as every cycle? These still eat engine parts randomly and don’t have the mythical “good” 6.3?

Ok good, because they’re tempting.

HEY! (my car briefly awakes from its slumber to growl at you, very loudly)

For the safety of my finances and sanity I’ve convinced myself ir is a bad idea.

You know, unless it isn’t.

I took the DeMuro route and bought it at CarMax, with a warranty.

It’s on my list as a next car, I think for a 2012 they’ve fixed many of the reliability issues that could befall you, engine-wise and it comes with the nicer interior.

Here’s some good info in response to my response to the article:

In short what I learned is that reliability is pretty good, but expect to chew through tires like there’s no tomorrow and to suck down fuel like it’s 10 cents a gallon.

Can confirm fuel economy is shocking. And would add that the 2012-and-up transmission is better than the first generation, too.

12 and newer is generally fine. A warranty is never a bad idea, but I wouldn’t worry too much. They really don’t eat parts aside from tires.

Black valve covers = good 6.3

White valve covers = less good

Kinja'd!!!

For 2012 and up, aren’t all the valve covers this sparkly gray color? Meanwhile the intake manifolds vary, where the performance package and 507 cars have the dark one above (that’s mine) and the standard engine has the lighter cover below?

You’re looking at the wrong parts. See the oil cap on the driver’s side if the engine? It screws into the valve covers. The bits on top that say AMG are just the air filter housings.

Got it, thank you! And please forgive my ignorance. So: top one good, bottom one “less good”?
