Bentley Azure and Brooklands are just so fucking amazing. I have an S90 lease right now, so I can’t really break it. But why didn’t I think this was a better purchase? I mean it isn’t. But isn’t it?

And for the record, I could have gotten a late model (2008/2009) Arnage for the same price as my S90. Wouldn’t have been as tech, but everything else...I mean c’mon.

The Azure/Brooklands are about as close to my idea of the perfect modern car as you can get.

Same! The Arnage is amazing too. For less than my S90

I’d love to do this, but never would- I’d feel like a poser.

But damn I’d love to experience it.

I mean, if you can afford the maintenance. I have no idea what NP on a used Bentley is, but I can’t imagine much is going to break on those, this isn’t the nineties anymore.

Personally, I feel like buying an old continental would be posing. But buying an Arnage/Azure/Brooklands is a more sophisticated choice.

True, and these weren’t the continentals. These were bespoke 350k+ machines

If you had the means, you’d have to buy this. You just have to. No choice.

I was trying out luxury used cars at a dealership a couple weeks ago, and the salesman says to me, “Let me show you something; you gotta see this.”

He ushers me to the back of the garage to show me a 2004 Bentley convertible with over 100k on the clock. I get in, and he says to me, “it’s $41,000.”

My jaw hits the plush carpet. No effing way this car is that cheap. The black and cream interior is immaculate. I don’t care how many miles are on it.

The Breitling dash clock winks at me in the garage light. I whisper to myself, “I could afford that.” My daughter begs me from the passenger seat, “Please can we get it, Daddy, pleeeeeeeease?”

The salesman comes up with his phone to show me the listing. “Oops, it’s $141,000, not $41,000. Sorry.”

Oh well, it was a nice dream. Back to the Jags and BMWs.

God I love the idea of a depreciated Bentley(or Rolls) but I just couldn’t pull one off. The issue with getting a car like that is then, wherever you go, you’re the guy getting out of the Bentley and people look at you a bit differently. Getting out of a Volvo gives nobody any preconceived notions about who you are, you get to create them yourself. Getting out of a Bentley makes you a rich asshole before you even have the chance to open your mouth. It’s just something sucks about society, owning the wrong nice things is frowned upon, unless you’re some public figure.

Example: A few summers ago I worked at a construction site. Our project manager(he was an absolute ass but that’s not the point) usually drove a Ram 3500, pretty well optioned, easily a $60 or $70 grand truck. No one ever said a word about it. One weekend, he bought himself a toy. An early Porsche Boxster. You can pick those up all day for 10 grand, the most he could’ve spent was 15 or 20. Suddenly ALL these older construction guys are abuzz with how much Todd must be making and how unfair it is etc. Even though lots of them had Harleys that were probably more expensive. Just shows the power of a badge

Yeah, a friend of mine is quite well off and his dad has a Continental, something like a 2010. Never drives it because it’s so much more expensive to run than his current-gen S550 and the Benz is a better car anyway.

i REALLY hate that.

I am NOT a badge snob at all. I buy quality and that’s it. That’s why I have a FiST and S90. But I just LOVE those big 2 doors. But yeah everyone would judge you for driving one. So annoying.

there’s no 2004 bentley continental anywhere that still costs 6 figures.

your 41k figure was actually spot on.

but the continental is the ULTIMATE poser car. A Brooklands is a class car.

I drive an E36 318ti and get the ‘but you drive a BMW’ thing every so often. Like seriously? I spent literally 10 times less on my BMW than your parents spent on your new RAV4 and somehow I’m the spoiled rich kid?

I also love the huge Bentleys(I don’t discriminate on number of doors) but not enough to take on the ‘Bentley guy’ shit, even if I could afford to own and run it. If I can ever afford a Ferrari 355 though, fuck it I’ll be the Ferrari asshole. Can’t hear the hate over my V8 screaming at 8,000 RPM.

Can’t argue with free lol.

I asked him about it once and he pretty much said it seemed worth it until the novelty of the craftsmanship wore off and he realized how much better of a value the S-Class was(he always had one of one generation or another alongside the Bentley). It doesn’t feel as special but it does everything better and cheaper and never bites you in the ass out of nowhere.

Typed that wrong. It was a 2014. Here is the link . Except now I am confused, because it doesn’t have high miles according to the listing. Sales guy must have been mistaken about that as well. Or maybe my memory is just bad.

I have no problem being in a poser car. I only buy it for me, not for anyone else. :)

Kinja'd!!! "The World of Vee" (theworldofvee)
05/10/2017 at 17:07, STARS: 1

yeah 2014 goes for that much.

And of course drive you for you, and a 2014 continental wouldn’t be posing as it’s new. Buying a 2004 or 2005 would be more akin to posing because really at this point it’s only truly defining characteristic is that it’s a bentley. for 40-50k you could have gotten any number of better cars, but you went with the badge.

Whereas if you got a 2004 Arnage you’d look like someone with taste. I have no quantifiable way to measure this but I swear it’s true.

I believe you. All I can tell you is that sitting in that car felt like an event, and I would have grown just as much wood if it had a Kia badge on the hood. In fact, I might have been harder because as a Kia, that much luxury would be a steal.
