CPO 228i, if can find one with a manual and the M-Sport package. Also, do not want a white car again.
M235i would be better but it is slightly over budget with the CPO warranty.

I test drove a 235i AWD and loved everything but the steering rack. Some great deals on the 228s.

I’ve driven two 228i ‘verts and a coupe all with AWD and all automatic. I think I would go with the RWD because it is cheaper (lighter too).

I’ve considered looking into them as well. I think they will be the next E30 craze in a few years because they are really well balanced and well priced

Mm E30s are something special. I learned to drive stick in an E30 M3 and then briefly (like drove it twice) had an E30 325ix.

I’d look into the lighting package too. The turning headlights are pretty sweet and I thought they’d be an absolute joke when I first got my (used) 328i.

Where are you located? We might be selling our 14' 228i MSport (MT) in Estoril Blue.

CarMax doesn’t have any 228i manuals. Just an M3, M4, and Z4.

Anything specific you didn’t like about white? I think it looks great on the C43 AMG but I haven’t had a white car in over 15 years.

Yeah I agree they are pretty special cars. But I think in a future where all the classics are not to driver oriented, they will be a great drivers car deal

I’m afraid servicing the turbos will make these a bit high on maintenance compared to how E30s are today.
I also don’t think the current M3 will be littered around track days in 20 years like E36 and E46 M3s are today. Even E9X M3s are a hard sell with the rod bearings essentially being wear items. Add having to rebuild a turbo to that and you’ve got a near-classic too expensive to maintain (and expensive consumables) to justify flogging it around a racetrack.
But I digress. For right now, I think this is a good buy. You’ve got at least 4-6 years of engaging, relatively trouble free driving.

The FiST came in 3rd for Performance Car of the Year behind the C7 and SLS AMG Black Series. It beat out an R8, M6, F12, 2 Jags, an AMG, JCW GP, GT-R, and a Porsche.
Also, I’ve driven a BRZ and I just didn’t love it.

I think I could live a Fiesta ST.
I drove an FR-S shortly, on Ozark backroads, and was pretty impressed with how well it was able to hang in the corners.
