The wheels that got away: a funny little story from my 635csi days.

Kinja'd!!!

I found these on Craigslist. Stanceing ruining the car was my plan, but I didn’t use them, and put them back on Craigslist. The original seller purchased them, AKA we both lost hundreds of dollars trading them back and forth. That’s car guys for ya. Now I wish I held on to them. Always hoard your wheels kids...

My friend told me last night that he totally would’ve offered more than that guy paid for them AKA they’d still be around. They were just like the picture: NOS in the box. They’re definitely a polarizing design, but also incredibly rare in BMW fitment and perfect for a stance project because they’re so ludicrous. I bet I’ll end up with another set of Momo “extremes” at some point just to close this ancient thought loop.

I think the rotational asymmetry would bug me, but I like them. They remind me of another one of my favorite wheels, the 944 “phone dials”

I love a good set if phone dials. Alfa was also up to similar shenanigans in the nineties:

If you stare at those Alfa wheels hard enough, your eyes will go Full Ronal Bear.

I like those a lot. They’d look rediculous on a sharknose 635. So yeah I think they would have worked.

hahahah yessss I forgot about these. And I KNEW I could find something equally as offensive - a harlequin Golf - with those wheels:

Me too. I wouldn’t have gone full rubber band tires, just low profile. One day...

Best application of those wheels ever. I don’t hate it. Although the Audi Sport 5-spokes on the left are some of the best ever. They work on everything.

This is off topic, but I’ve noticed this error about ten times in the past few days here and on the FP and I don’t think I’d ever seen anyone make it before, so let’s clear this up once and for all: a horde is a large group of people or animals (“Mongol hordes,” “horde of locusts”), while a hoard is a hidden store of valued items, or the act of amassing one (“hoard your wheels,” “a dragon’s hoard of treasure”). Thank you, I feel better now.

Wow I had no idea and I’m a stickler for that kind of thing too. Duly noted (and edited)

Such a great design. I posted a 164 I found on craigs the other day with these wheels on it; perfection.
