Do Colorados already look aged? Or am I crazy?  + Kinja Image Upload Rant

On my way into work this morning, a new Chevy Colorado (similar to this one) merged in front of me. As I moved over a lane and passed it, I couldn’t help thinking the styling on this truck is a whole lot of “meh”. To me, the truck already looks aged 10-years - Esepecially compared to it’s GMC Canyon brother.

Is it just me? Am I just judging this truck super hard?

Well, they are essentially 7 year old design (minus the front) at this point.

I actually prefer the look of the Colorado to the Canyon. I generally prefer the look of GMC’s over Chevy’s, but I think the Colorado’s front end styling works better with the swoopy cab styling.

It looked like a generic “truck” from day one. Use any different grill from any company ever and you’d convince people its real.

I really don’t like it, don’t hate it either. I guess that happens when you design for the masses.

I’d actually flip the Chevy and GMC around there. But I think it’s less “dated” and more “mass market”.

Amazing what a little tinkering will bring out though. The ordinary, bone-stock trucks look kinda meh, but something as small as tearing off that air dam makes a noticable improvement. Throw a leveling kit on there and it’s an entirely different truck.

If you find they look dated, what do you think about the Tacoma?

I used to prefer the Canyon’s looks, but have grown to accept that Chevy’s sports car headlights fit the complete package better. I’d still go for a Sierra over a Silverado on looks alone.

To me, most of the Chevrolet styling across the board looks boring, bland, and dated, especially with the chrome line across the bumper.

The Tacoma styling, for whatever reason, still looks relatively modern, even thought I know it’s just the same beans, refried. Maybe it’s that I know the Tacoma has been around for so long that I expect it not to be modern and new. But the Colorado IS new (at least for the US market), and I expect it to stand out a bit more.

Subtlties.

I don’t like the swoopy cab styling :( Maybe that’s part of my hangup with the Colorado.

It’s not that I think it looks BAD, it’s a perfectly decent looking truck. I just think it looks dated.

I don’t like swoopy cab styling either, I just think he Colorado front end works better with it. I think they both look pretty good.

I drive a Sierra on looks alone. Mine’s an ‘06, but I thought it looked WAY better than an ‘06 Silverado. I hate the angry eyes front ends.

What really bugs me is the high bed ends. Maybe it improves with the front end leveled.

the basic shape has been around for sale since 2012, so yes it is getting on a bit.
