Just finished this yesterday. I’ve been a huge fan of Sega’s Yakuza series, and could not wait for the English localisation to come out. So during my Taipei flight transfer I bought the Chinese version. The Japanese title means “Like a Dragon 6,” but the Chinese release is titled 6, or “The Dragon of Men 6.”
For those not familiar, it’s a beat-em-up open world action adventure, sort of like Grand Theft Auto on foot (cars and guns are generally not needed in the super-dense city locales).
As has been through the entire series, the story is crazy and borders on ridiculous. The drama is always endearing and heartfelt. The cultural humour and bro irony are delivered in spades. What would be seen as female marginalisation and borderline misogyny by Western audiences is presented as normal life in Japan, but that is not Sega’s fault. A mouthful of gang names to remember, too, from the overarching criminal organisation down to the regional divisions and family cliques.
Here’s the main character, a legendary Yakuza feared by all, having to do some hilariously un-gangster things to achieve his objectives.

I remember playing a demo for a game called Yakuza back on the original Xbox. But iirc, that was a driving game... Or maybe the one segment for the demo was driving-related?

Big fan of the series here, have been playing everything that’s made it to the U.S. since Yakuza 3. Definitely can’t wait for 6 to get here ... I’d love to be able to play the original releases of the games as they come out but unfortunately my Japanese is not anywhere near good enough.
100%ing them sure gets grindy at times, but the stories and the humor they occasionally pepper in has been consistently fantastic IMO. It’s good to see that the baby gets put to use as a suitable foil to the typically serious main plot. How’d they do with Beat Takeshi?

He has a distinctive voice, and his Hiroshima clan patriarch is a primary character. I’m not familiar with his other work so it wasn’t a particular selling point to me.
The gameplay has a few bugs (the failure of the fire escape camera angle auto-follow is REALLY irritating, and enemies trapping themselves in corners is funny) but IMO this is the most engrossing story of the series. 5 was good too, but I felt it had too many cities and too many characters. 6 condenses it all and does the whole package better, even with just Kiryu as sole playable.
I started with 4, and 6 is still my favourite so far. I can’t do all-Japanese either—got to be English or Chinese sub.

Huh. “Yakuza” in the name, and it takes place in Hong Kong with a bunch of cars that aren’t really even part of the car scene there. The cultural appropriation is strong.
I hope the roads and cars were at least RHD.
