Truck driver in the US who does weekly cross country trips. His posts answer so many questions that people have and while I was aware of some things having his point of view on others has been really informative.

From an Ask Reddit post for truck runaway lanes.

Enjoy!

What I learn from stories like that is the trucking industry is heavily under regulated.

Why do we share roads with vehicles incapable of controlling/stopping their travel so willfully? So Amazon Prime is a rock bottom $99? Whoever decided it was cool to allow 53', 70k pound trucks on the same roads as cars full of little kids was an ass.

Nope...was South Shore all day until around 4pm. Then napped until 7 haha.

Assuming you were in the area?

From what I’ve seen from a customer perspective of bulk loaded materials is that the majority of the regulations are focused on the drivers themselves. There are a lot of changes happening in the industry now, as in 2017, but in regards to shift tracking and electronic logs. I honestly have no idea if or how the vehicles themselves are looked at.

I give trucks wide berths and consideration but it turns out that I’m in the minority, when reading these questions and responses. There’s a general lack of understanding across the board, it seems.

In general drivers aren’t educated about the special circumstances around trucks, because it’s not required.

From a cousin that is a truck driver, I think he’s being generous when he says 55mph takes 200 feet to stop. For a lot of the equipment out there, it’s closer to 300+, at least the way he tells it. That, along with the number of acrid cloud belching I’ve seen (There’s a trucking company about 2 miles from my house, and they have one truck that has forced me to pull over and stop due to visibility on multiple occasions) makes me a bit angsty about the whole industry.

yep, i see you saw my Cadillac post. There was a new(ish) Rolls Royce convertible near there too. We got off at Park street and cut across government center to lunch in the North End. Leaving the north end a red FoST passed by. Then walked the greenway to the aquarium so the kids could see the sea lions.

Hmmm...could have been me. I’m the only FoST in the area, particularly in red. May have had my times confused cuz I’m so frickin’ tired it all blurs into one day.

Sounds like a great day.

Just found this one .

I’m new to going through Reddit, primarily because my buddy follows the political ongoings, so the format is rough at times.
